<p><b>POPE LEO XIV, ANGELUS, 2nd Sunday in the Season of Christmas, St Peter's Square, 4 January 2026</b></p><p> </p><p>Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday! On this Second Sunday after the Nativity of the Lord, I wish first to renew my good wishes to all of you. The day after tomorrow, with the closing of the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica, we will conclude the Jubilee of Hope. The very mystery of Christmas, in which we are still immersed, reminds us that the foundation of our hope is God’s Incarnation. The Prologue of John, which the Liturgy sets before us today, recalls this clearly: “The Word became flesh and lived among us” (Jn 1:14). Indeed, Christian hope is not based on optimistic forecasts or human calculations, but on God’s decision to share our journey, so that we may never be alone as we travel through life. This is God’s work: in Jesus, he became one of us, chose to remain with us, and willed to be forever God-with-us.</p><p> </p><p><b>교황 레오 14세, 삼종기도, 성탄절 제2주일, 성 베드로 광장, 2026년 1월 4일</b></p><p> </p><p>사랑하는 형제자매 여러분, 복된 주일입니다! 주님 탄생 후 제2주일인 오늘, 먼저 여러분 모두에게 축복을 빕니다. 모레, 성 베드로 대성당의 성문이 닫히면서 우리는 희망의 희년을 마무리합니다. 우리가 여전히 푹 빠져 있는 성탄의 신비는 우리의 희망의 기초가 하느님의 육화임을 우리에게 상기시킵니다. 오늘 전례의 요한복음 서두가 이것을 분명히 기억합니다. “말씀이 사람이 되시어 우리 가운데 사셨다.” (요한복음 1,14) 참으로, 그리스도인의 희망의 기초는 낙관적인 예측이나 인간적인 계산이 아니라 바로 하느님의 결정입니다. 그 결정은 하느님께서 우리의 여정에 함께하시어, 우리가 인생 여행을 하는 중에 결코 외롭지 않게 하시겠다는 결정입니다. 이것이 바로 하느님께서 하시는 일입니다. 즉 예수님 안에서 하느님께서는 우리와 같은 사람이 되셨고, 우리와 함께 머무시기로 선택하셨고, 영원히 우리와 함께 계신 하느님이 되시기를 원하셨습니다.</p><p> </p><p>The coming of Jesus in the weakness of human flesh rekindles our hope. At the same time, it entrusts us with a twofold commitment: one to God and the other to our fellow human beings.</p><p> </p><p>예수님께서 연약한 인간의 몸으로 오신 것이 우리의 희망을 다시 불붙입니다. 동시에 이것은 우리에게 두 가지 헌신을 맡기는데, 하나는 하느님께 대한 헌신이고 다른 하나는 우리의 동료 인간에 대한 헌신입니다.</p><p> </p><p>We are committed to God, for since he has become flesh, choosing our human frailty as his dwelling place, we are called to reconsider how we think about him, beginning with the flesh of Jesus, and not from an abstract doctrine. We must, therefore, constantly examine our spirituality and the ways in which we express our faith, in order to ensure that they are truly incarnate. In other words, we must be capable of contemplating, proclaiming and praying to the God who meets us in Jesus. He is not a distant deity in a perfect heaven above us, but a God who is nearby and inhabits our fragile earth, who becomes present in the faces of our brothers and sisters, and reveals himself in the circumstances of daily life.</p><p> </p><p>우리는 하느님께 헌신해야 합니다. 그분께서 육화하시어 우리 연약한 인간을 거처로 삼으셨기에, 우리는 추상적인 교리가 아니라 예수님의 육신에서 출발하여 그분에 대해 어떻게 생각할 것인지 재고하도록 부름을 받았기 때문입니다. 그러므로 우리는 우리의 영성과 신앙 표현 방식을 끊임없이 점검하여 그것들이 진정으로 하느님의 육화에 근거하는지 확인해야 합니다. 다시 말해, 우리는 예수님 안에서 우리를 만나시는 하느님께 관상하고, 선포하고, 기도할 수 있어야 합니다. 그분은 우리 위의 완벽한 하늘에 멀리 계신 하느님이 아니라, 우리 가까이 계시며 연약한 이 땅에 사시며, 우리의 형제자매의 얼굴 안에 계시며 일상생활의 상황 속에서 자신을 드러내시는 하느님이십니다.</p><p> </p><p>Our commitment to all men and women must also be consistent. Since God has become one of us, every human creature is a reflection of him, bearing his image and containing a spark of his light. This calls us to recognize the inviolable dignity of every person and to offer ourselves in mutual love for one another. Moreover, the Incarnation demands a concrete commitment to the promotion of fraternity and communion. Through this commitment, solidarity becomes the criterion of all human relationships, calling us to strive for justice and peace, to care for the most fragile, and to defend the weak. God has become flesh; therefore, there is no authentic worship of God without care for humanity.</p><p> </p><p>모든 사람들에 대한 우리의 헌신도 마찬가지로 한결같아야 합니다. 하느님께서 우리와 같은 사람이 되셨으므로 모든 인간 피조물이 그분을 반영하고, 그분의 형상을 지니고, 그분의 빛을 품고 있습니다. 이는 우리에게 모든 사람의 불가침적인 존엄성을 인정하고, 서로에게 사랑을 실천할 것을 요구합니다. 더욱이, 육화는 형제애와 친교의 증진을 위한 구체적인 헌신을 요구합니다. 이러한 헌신을 통해, 연대가 모든 인간관계의 기준이 되고, 우리는 정의와 평화를 추구하고, 가장 연약한 이들을 돌보고, 약한 이들을 보호합니다. 하느님께서 사람이 되셨기 때문에 인류에 대한 사랑이 없이는 진정한 하느님께 대한 경배는 없습니다.</p><p> </p><p>Brothers and sisters, may the joy of Christmas encourage us to continue on our journey. The good of the beloved Venezuelan people must prevail over every other consideration. This must lead to the overcoming of violence, and to the pursuit of paths of justice and peace, guaranteeing the sovereignty of the country, ensuring the rule of law enshrined in its Constitution, respecting the human and civil rights of each and every person, and working together to build a peaceful future of cooperation, stability and harmony, with special attention to the poorest who are suffering because of the difficult economic situation.
