Summary:
Jesus finds the man who was healed of blindness and asks if he believes in the Son of Man. The man asks who He is, and Jesus reveals Himself. The man believes and worships Jesus. Jesus then says He came to bring judgment, so the blind may see and those who claim to see may become blind. Some Pharisees question if they are blind too, and Jesus responds that if they were truly blind, they would be without sin, but because they claim to see, their guilt remains.
Teaching:
When Jesus said, “those who see will become blind,” He was referring to the Jews who argued with Him. This also applies to those of us who find fault with the church.
Those who are blind have the opportunity to encounter Jesus because they cannot see, while those who claim to see are the ones who argue with Him even when He is right in front of them. Some people attend church their whole lives yet criticize it, while others may come just once and receive salvation.
Even now, God’s judgment continues. Those who condemn others they consider inferior must not forget that their own sins remain. The real problem is that they are unaware of their own condition.
Such people listen to sermons but always apply them to others instead of themselves. Only an open and pure heart can receive the Word, but when the heart is closed and interprets everything with a biased perspective, everything becomes distorted.
If we want to receive salvation like the blind man, we must always acknowledge that we are the ones who cannot see, cannot walk, do not know, and lack wisdom. In doing so, we can meet Jesus, receive His touch, and become people who see, hear, possess, and act according to His will.
