Keeping Away from What Causes Dislike or Distrust... Article 244.
Distance from Suspicion(遠嫌(원혐 - Wonhyeom) means that there is no rift
or estrangement caused by distrust or dislike.
When interacting with people and matters, a wise person(哲人,철인) would rather be lacking
or negligent in cleverness, but never lacking in sincerity;
and though they may not possess eloquent speech, because there is no deceit or falsehood
in their heart, there is no cause for distrust, and no rift is created.
One who fails to recognize such genuine goodness is, conversely,
lacking in goodness themselves.
[Original Text,
Those who stay far away from ill-will and suspicion naturally have no
resentment or rifts with others.
When a wise person interacts with others,
they would rather appear lacking in cleverness than be lacking in sincerity.
They would rather be alow or hesitant in speech than have deceit in their heart,
Thus, no grudges or discord ever arise.
One who does not recognize what is truly good ends up becoming unrighteous instead.
[Translation,
Being good does not necessarily require fluent speech.
What truly matters is sincerity and trust. Even without eloquent words,
sincerlty and trust act as a universal language that is easily conveyed to all human beings,
and even to animals.
If sincerlty and trust lie beneath, a person who recognizes them―even
when the words are not fluent ―is a dood person.
However, if someone fails to recognize this and prefers fluent speech that merely
disguises evil, it is because that person themselves is evil.
※ Key Notes.
Distance from Suspicion / Avoiding Estrangement
Would rether be lacking in cleverness,
but never lacking in sincerity
Not eloquent, but free from deceit
