Summary:
During the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, Jesus was walking in the temple when the Jews surrounded Him and asked if He was the Christ. Jesus responded that He had already told them, but they did not believe because they were not His sheep. He affirmed that His sheep hear His voice, follow Him, and receive eternal life, and that no one can snatch them from His or the Father's hand. He then declared, "I and the Father are one."
The Jews, considering this blasphemy, picked up stones to stone Him. Jesus asked which of His works from the Father they were condemning, but they answered that they were stoning Him not for His works, but because He, a man, claimed to be God.
Teaching:
“But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep.”
The Jews, upon hearing Jesus' words, first asked Him if He was the Christ, but later sought to stone Him to death. Their actions reveal that they are not His sheep. The more they hear Jesus' words, the more it becomes evident that they are neither His sheep nor God's sheep.
They do not merely refuse to listen to His words; they also expose the evil within themselves. Their problem lies in the fact that they do not have the nature of sheep.
Likewise, we must not lift the stones of our hearts just because the words we hear in church differ from what we desire. Instead, we should listen to Jesus’ voice, recognize the One who knows us better than anyone, and follow His voice to receive eternal life in the hands of God the Father, living a vibrant and abundant life.
