Summary:
Jesus defends His claim to be the Son of God by citing Scripture and urging the Jews to believe in His works. They try to seize Him, but He escapes. Across the Jordan, many recall John's testimony about Him and come to believe.
Teaching:
"If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father."
Seeing the Jews' lack of faith, Jesus told them to at least believe in the works of God that were being shown before them. Just as the blind man came to know who Jesus was after experiencing the works of God, Jesus was showing that even those who saw His works but still did not believe in Him could come to know Him if they at least believed in the works themselves.
Nevertheless, the Jews in Jerusalem did not follow Jesus; instead, they tried to seize Him again. But Jesus escaped from their hands and went across the Jordan, to the place where John had first baptized.
There, many people said, *"John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this Man was true."* And they believed in Jesus.
