Summary:
Lazarus of Bethany, the brother of Mary and Martha, was sick. His sisters sent word to Jesus, but He delayed for two days, stating that the illness would glorify God. When Jesus finally decided to go to Judea, His disciples warned Him of the danger, as the Jews had recently tried to stone Him. Jesus spoke about walking in the light and then told them that Lazarus had "fallen asleep," meaning he had died. The disciples misunderstood, so Jesus clarified. He expressed joy that He was not there earlier, so they might believe. Thomas, also called Didymus, urged the others to go with Jesus, even if it meant dying with Him.
Teaching:
The death and resurrection of Lazarus are connected to the story of Jesus' death and resurrection for salvation. This is because Jesus came to this world to proclaim the message of salvation and to fulfill it.
We should not live with a dead faith in our homes or workplaces but live with the faith that Jesus revives and restores.
