Summary:
Six days before Passover, Jesus visits Bethany, where Lazarus lives. At a dinner, Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume and wipes them with her hair. Judas criticizes her, saying the perfume could have been sold to help the poor, but he is actually a thief. Jesus defends Mary, saying she is preparing Him for burial and that the poor will always be present, but He will not.
Teaching:
In today’s passage, Mary focused on Jesus. She not only listened to His words but also deeply considered the meaning of His death and resurrection. When she met Jesus again, she realized what truly needed to be done by focusing on Him. That’s why, even when none of the disciples or anyone else took action, Mary alone worshiped and honored Jesus.
By listening carefully and focusing on Jesus’ work and plan, we can make the best choices. Just as Mary anointed Jesus with perfume to honor Him, we, too, must worship wholeheartedly and live according to His Word.
