㉮ As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue,
= As his custom was so, Paul went into the synagogue,
= As (it) was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue * it = Paul went into the synagogue
그런데 발음이 혼동스러우므로 발음상 as his custom was로 쓰기도 한다. 이는 문법적인 것보다는 습관적으로 As was his custom으로 이와같이 사용한다. 마치 문법적으로는 틀리지만 습관적으로 It is me. = As he was wont,
* wont [wɔːnt, wount, wʌnt] ɑ. 하는《to do》• as he was ~ to say 그가 곧잘 말했듯이. ━n. ⦗단수뿐임⦘ 상습, 관습 • It is his ~ to get up early.
㉯ as : …도 똑같이(and so) : • She was delighted, ɑs were we all〔=ɑs we all were〕. 그녀는 기뻐하였고 우리들 모두도 그러했다 (※as가 접속사 겸 보어[and so]로 쓰이는 것은, as 뒤에 be 동사나 seem 대동사 do 등의 동사가 오는 경우에 한함. 다만 She gained weight after quitting smoking, as (it) often happens.
• As I heard from his mother, Jane is now in England
= As I heard (it) from his mother, *it=Jane is now in England
㉰ • As was his custom, he washed three times.
= As (it) was his custom, he washed three times. *it=he washed three times
•As was his custom~ 이 문장은 도치된 것이 아닙니다. 주절의 내용(he washed three times)이
•As it(the fact that he washed three times) was his custom, he washed three times.
• As was mentioned in the debate,~ 논의에서 (그것을)언급했던 바와 같이 이 문장도 As (it) was mentioned in the debate~가 됩니다. it은 주절에서 반복되는 부분으로 동어가 반복되므로 생략해주는 것입니다.
As was seen in a suicide,~
= As (it) was seen in a suicide,~
