여호수아기 9장1_15

[세실리아]

   기브온 사람들과 계약을 맺다 

1 요르단 건너편 산악 지방과 평원 지대,레바논 앞까지 이르는 큰 바다 연안 전체에  사는,

   히타이트족,아모리족,가나안족,프리즈족,히위족,여부스족의 모든 임금이 이 소식을 듣고,

2 함께 모여서 여호수아와 이스라엘에게 맞서 싸우기로 뜻을 모았다. 

3  그런데 기브온 주민들은 여호수아가 예리코와 아이에 한 일을 듣고서,

4 그들 나름대로 속임수를 쓰기로 하였다. 그래서 그들은 양식을 싼 다음,낡아 빠진 자루와 낡고 

   갈라져서 꿰맨 포도주 부대를 나귀에 싣고서 길을 떠났다. 

5 발에도 낡아 빠져 기운 신을 신고 몸에도 낡아 빠진 옷을 걸쳤다. 양식으로 마련한 빵은 모두 

   마르고 부스러져 있었다. 

6 그들은 길갈 진영으로 여호수아를 찾아가서,그와 이스라엘 사람들에게 말하였다. "저희는 먼 

   고장에서 왔습니다.이제 저희와 계약을 맺어 주십시오." 

7 이스라엘 사람들이 그 히위족에게,"그대들은 우리 가운데에 사는 것 같은데,우리가 어찌 그대들과 

   계약을 맺어 줄 수 있겠소?" 하자,

8 그들이 여호수아에게 "저희는 나리의 종들입니다." 하고 대답하였다.여호수아가 그들에게 "그대들은 

   누구며 어디에서 왔소?" 하고 물으니,

9 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하였다. "이 종들은 주 나리의 하느님 이름 때문에 아주 먼 고장에서 왔습니다

   저희는 그분에 대한 소문을 들었습니다.그분께서 이집트에서 하신 모든 일이며,

10 요르단 건너편의 두 아모리족 임금,곧 헤스본 임금 시혼과 아스타롯에 살던 바산 임금

    옥에게 하신 일을 다 들었습니다. 

11 그래서 저희 원로들과 저희 고장 주민들이 모두 저희에게 말하였습니다. '여행 양식을 손에 들고 

    그들을 만나러 가서 '저희는 여러분의 종입니다.그러니 이제 저희와 계약을 맺어 주십시오.' 하고 

    말하여라.' 

12 여기에 저희 빵이 있습니다. 여러분에게 오려고 저희가 떠나오던 날 집에서 그것을 쌀 때에는 

    따뜻하였습니다.그런데 이제 보십시오,마르고 부스러졌습니다. 

13 이 술 부대도 저희가 술을 채울 때에는 새것이었습니다. 그런데 보십시오,이렇게 갈라졌습니다.

    또 저희의 옷과 신도 아주 먼 길을 오다보니 이렇게 낡아 버렸습니다." 

14 이스라엘 사람들은 주님의 뜻을 여쭈어 보지도 않고 그들에게서 양식을 받았다. 

15 여호수아는 그들과 평화롭게 지내기로 하고 그들을 살려 준다는 계약을 맺었다. 공동체의 

    수장들도 그들에게 맹세해 주었다.

9. 1. When the news reached the kings west of the Jordan, in the mountain regions and in the foothills, and all along the coast of the Great Sea as far as Lebanon: Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,
2. they all formed an alliance to launch a common attack against Joshua and Israel.
3. On learning what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai, the inhabitants of Gibeon
4. put into effect a device of their own. They chose provisions for a journey, making use of old sacks for their asses, and old wineskins, torn and mended.

5. They wore old, patched sandals and shabby garments; and all the bread they took was dry and crumbly.
6. Thus they journey to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal, where they said to him and to the men of Israel, "We have come from a distant land to propose that you make an alliance with us."
7. But the men of Israel replied to the Hivites, "You may be living in land that is ours. How, then, can we make an alliance with you?"
8. But they answered Joshua, "We are your servants." Then Joshua asked them, "Who are you? Where do you come from?"

9. They answered him, "Your servants have come from a far-off land, because of the fame of the LORD, your God. For we have heard reports of all that he did in Egypt
10. and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites beyond the Jordan, Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth.
11. So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country said to us, 'Take along provisions for the journey and go to meet them. Say to them: We are your servants; we propose that you make an alliance with us.'

12. This bread of ours was still warm when we brought it from home as provisions the day we left to come to you, but now it is dry and crumbled.
13. Here are our wineskins, which were new when we filled them, but now they are torn. Look at our garments and sandals which are worn out from the very long journey."
14. Then the Israelite princes partook of their provisions, without seeking the advice of the LORD.
15. So Joshua made an alliance with them and entered into an agreement to spare them, which the princes of the community sealed with an oath.
