Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 2:8~11 - To the Church in Smyrna, Tribulation/Persecution/Martyrdom, Receiving Only Praise from Jesus
Revelation 2:10~11 - The crown of life and the second death
<Revelation> 2:10 - Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.(NIV); Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.(KJV)
2:11 - He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.(NIV); He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.(KJV)
○ As I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_154>, Smyrna was a beautiful city called 'the glory of Asia' or 'the crown of Asia’ as ‘the Crown City' because of its beautiful location between the bay and the mountains. Therefore, the words of Jesus, “I will give you the crown of life” to those who are faithful unto death in the church of Smyrna, are the most appropriate, beautiful and supreme expressions.
○ As I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_156>, the crown of life, which will be discussed more in detail later, refers to the first resurrection as the resurrection to eternal life without the second death (Revelation 20:5~6). As I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_112> and <Bible Matrix ⑦_126>, if you participate in the first resurrection, you will become a priest or a king to serve God the Father and Jesus Christ in <The Thousand Years> as written in <Revelation> 20:4~5 and <the New Jerusalem and Its Nations>, which will be built in the new heaven and new earth, as written in Chapters 21~22 of <Revelation>.
○ However, souls who did not participate in the first resurrection will participate in the second resurrection as the resurrection to judgment. And the dead will be judged according to what they had done as recorded in their own books, and if anyone whose name will not be found written in the book of life Jesus Christ has will be thrown into the lake of fire as the second death (Revelation 20:11~15 and 21:8). I will discuss it more in detail later.
○ “Who faithful unto death” and “who overcomes” will be, strictly speaking, those who will participate in the first resurrection. The qualifications of those who will participate in this first resurrection is defined in <Revelation> 20:4, that is: (1) "the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus Christ and for the word of God“, (2) much later, about c.AD 10,736.5, in the second half of the last one seven, “the souls of those who had not worshiped the beast and his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands”. In other words, they are all martyrs. Without martyrdom, we cannot participate in the first resurrection. I asked a Bible scholar how to become a martyr in these days. He said that the concept of martyrdom changes with the times.
○ Even if the concept of martyrdom changes after AD 3,000 and (or) 5,000 years, strictly speaking, I will not participate in the first resurrection because I may not be a martyr, but I may participate in the second resurrection as the resurrection to judgment. As I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_140>, when we die, one wish is that the soul must go to the kingdom of heaven or paradise in order to become the quick or the living, not the dead. That's why I'm trying to go to the kingdom of heaven or paradise when I die. In other words, my name or your name must be recorded in the book of life that Jesus has. I will discuss it more in detail later.
