Summary:
Jesus speaks of His imminent glorification through His death and resurrection, which also glorifies God. He tells His disciples He will soon leave, and they cannot follow yet. He gives them a new commandment: to love one another as He has loved them. This love will be the defining mark of His true disciples.
Teaching:
Doing God's work is what brings glory to God. It is not only the good results of a task that glorify God, but the very act of doing God's work - following the calling and the economy (plan) of God - that itself brings glory to Him.
Let us not forget that the very work Jesus did glorified God. Simply living our lives doing God's work brings glory to Him. That is why we are called to live out God's story.
“I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
The reason we fail keep the Word after reading and hearing the Word is because we do not truly love God, and in that lack of love for God, we fail to love our neighbor. The spring or root of faith is love.
We must love one another and become true disciples of Jesus.
