One song that came from nowhere and now is one of the most popular songs in Korea is 100-Year Life.

This song appears to be an adaptation of Korea's most popular folk song, Arirang,

which is the name of a hill over which a lover walks away after saying goodbye to his or her lover.

My understanding is that the song was composed with lyrics by Kim Jong-wan in 1995

and Lee Ae-ran first sang this song in 2013. Lee is not a young singer.

She has been in the singing business for about 25 years,

but never really attracted any serious attention or popularity.

The song, however, changed her life, making her one of the most popular singers in Korea today.

I believe that Lee became popular with the song late in 2015, only about a couple of months ago.

I think the explosion of her popularity is due to the electronic media such as Youtube.

In January 2016, her schedule is so hectic that I saw her saying on MBC that she only slept three to four hours a day.

She performs on national TV shows and cruise ships.

Although the song resonates with the elderly, her popularity extends well beyond that segment

to include younger generations such as Gen Z teenagers.

The most popular phrase in the song is "Tell Them That" in Korean in an ordering tone without conveying any sense of "Please."

the English version rhymes :  the song references the elderly starting at 60, but conveys overflowing energy

and confidence that the elderly may need. Here we go:

If they come to get me when I am 60
Tell them that I cannot go, I am too young to go;

If they come to get me when I am 70
Tell them that I cannot go, I've still got work left to do;

If they come to get me when I am 80
Tell them that I cannot go, I am still useful;

If they come to get me when I am 90

Let us all have a long and healthy life!

We all know that real life is different. Many die before reaching 60. Many live to 70 and 80,

but have to tolerate severe health problems such as cancer, heart problems, Alzheimer's and arthritis.

Only a few manage to live to their 90s, let along 100.

The song, however, conveys a strong willpower to overcome all the problems accompanying the old age

by giving a strong message to those who come from the other world to take our lives.

These messages state, in paraphrasing, that I will not die now because I have a lot of work left to do before dying,

that I will die when I want to die, that my pride is hurt when you try to take my life away from this world,

and that I finally accept the end of my life at age 150 by saying to them that I am already in heaven.

The song cheerfully ends by saying that "Let us all have a long and healthy life!"

# 강원도 홍천출신으로 25년간 무명가수로 힘든 생활을 한 이애랑은

하루아침에 인기가 솟았다, 젊은이들의 SNS 덕분이다 ~

I don't fear death basically because I believe there is nothing afterwards
and therefore nothing to fear.
I am a bit nervous about how I die though, I'd like it to be as quick, unexpected, and painless as possible.

서울에서 동창회에 나가면, 술먹을때, " 9988 " 구호을 합니다 ~
99 살까지 88 [ 팔팔] 하게 살다가, 3일만에 죽는 것이 제일 좋다고 합니다 ㅎㅎ.
개인적으론 80 살까지 병없이 입원없이 건강하게 살었으면 된다고 생각합니다.
그러다가 그후에 갑자기 죽는 것이죠~ ㅎㅎ 제일 행복이라고 생각됩니다 ~
