파워 잉글리쉬 스터디 멤버 여러분 다들 한주 스타트는 잘 하셨는지요^^
새해를 맞이해서 스터디도 산뜻하게 출발했을 뿐 아니라 무엇보다도 Only 공부 모드에서
약간의 친목 모드로의 변화가 있었다는 점 상당히 기쁘게 생각합니다...ㅋㅋ
앞으로 자주는 아니지만 적어도 1달에 1번 정도는 스터디 후 Get-together를 가졌으면
하는 바램이네요.

[December 31, 2007]
1. Catch up : to bring up to date(최신 것을 따라잡다, 밀린 일을 하다)
ex) After a vacation, most employees need at least a few days to catch up on their work.
2. Retreat : a meeting or short trip(짧은 여행 또는 친목을 위한 모임)
ex) The president announced the policy during the company's annual retreat.
3. Slip someone's mind : to forget(잊다)
ex) I meant to call Alice the other day but it completely slipped my mind.
4. Pop in : to visit briefly and unexpectedly(잠깐 방문하다. 갑자기 들어가다)
ex) Tom, Aaron popped in earlier this morning looking for you.
5. Get-together : a meeting or gathering(간담회, 친목회)
ex) There's going to be a big get-together in the morning so make sure you're on time.
6. Obsolete : no longer in general use(쓸모없게 된, 쓰이지 않는)
ex) With rapid improvements in technology, computers become obsolete fairly quickly.
7. Hard copy : a printed version(인쇄된 원고)
ex) Since the president doesn't like email, his secretary prints out hard copies for him.
8. Workaholic : someone with the compulsive need to work(일에 중독된 사람)
ex) The marriage was difficult because Fred was a workaholic.
9. Give someone a hand : to assist, to help(도움을 주다)
ex) I'm going to move this weekend. Do you think you could give me a hand.
10. Lifesaver : one that provides help in a crisis(인명 구조자, 큰 도움을 준 사람)
ex) I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't helped. You're such a lifesaver.

1. Head over : to go to a certain place(~에 가다)
ex) We're going to head over to the restaurant for lunch.
2. A bunch of : a lot of(많은)
ex) Todd got a bunch of stuff from his brother to decorate the apartment.
3. For real : actually, truly(진짜로, 정말로)
ex) When they told me to design whatever I wanted, I knew the project was not for real.
4. Packed : filled to capacity, full(꽉 찬)
ex) The singer was so popular that every location she sang at was packed.
5. Camp out : to live in the open air(야영하다)
ex) We planned on camping out at the theater to get the concert tickets.
6. Blizzard : a heavy storm with lots of snow(심한 눈보라, 폭설)
ex) The blizzard was responsible for a number of accidents.
7. Resolution : a promise to do something(결의, 결심)
ex) John made a resolution to stop gambling.
8. Stick to : to follow, to continue with something(계속 해 나가다, ~을 고수하다)
ex) Even though Marcy starts many diets, she is never able to stick to them.
9. Cut back : to reduce, to shorten(줄이다)
ex) Production of the new model has been cut back in the past few months.

1. Personal information : private, identifying information(개인 정보)
ex) The company promises not to share your personal information with any other organization.
2. Big deal : a subject people think is important(중요한 일)
ex) Mark didn't understand why being on time was such a big dea.
3. Break into : to enter by force(침입하다)
ex) While Sarah was on vacation, someone broke into her house.
4. Identity theft : impersonation another person in order to commit fraud(신분 위장 범죄)
ex) People should check their accounts carefully in order to prevent identity theft.
5. Online : Via the Internet(온라인으로, 인터넷으로)
ex) More and more people are shopping online.
6. Fall into someone's hands : to be caught and controlled by someone(~의 손에 들어가다)
ex) The files must be prevented from falling into the enemy's hands.
7. Skip town : to disappear without notifying anyone(아무도 모르게 사라지다)
ex) The thief realized that the police were looking for him and decided to skip town.
8. In a pickle : experiencing a bad situation(곤경에 빠진)
ex) We are going to be in a pickle unless we complete the project on time.
9. Credit rating : a classification of a person's credit history(신용 등급)
ex) If you're credit rating is too low, then you will not be albe to qualify for a loan.
10. Safeguard : to protect, to secure(보호하다)
ex) The military set up barricades to safeguard the base.

1. Idle : to run at a slow speed or out of gear(자동차를 공회전 시키다, 빈둥거리다)
ex) Tom sat in his car as it was idling.
2. Warm up : to increase in temperature(따뜻하게 하다)
ex) We kept the heater on to warm up.
3. Wear and tear : damage from work or use(마멸, 소모)
ex) The warranty will cover manufacturer's damage, but not problems due to wear and tear.
4. Spark plug : a device in engines that produces a spark(점화 장치)
ex) It's a good idea to make sure that your spark plugs are clean.
5. Consumption : the amount used(소비)
ex) The rate of fuel consumption in the U.S. has increased every year.
6. Catalytic converter : an antipollution device installed in cars(촉매 변환 장치)
ex) All newer cars must have catalytic converter to reduce the amount of pollution in their exhaust.
7. Pollutant : something bad for the environment(오염 물질)
ex) The federal government has the power to regulate the pollutants emitted by companies.
8. exhaust : the gases that are released by an engine(배기 가스)
ex) The bus's exhaust stained my white jacket.
9. behemoth : a creature or thing that is monstrous in size(거대한 것, 거인)
ex) Captain Ahab was in search of the behemoth named Moby Dick.

1. Build : to mold, form, or create(건축하다, 만들다)
ex) The house was built to hold ten people.
2. Suit : to make appropriate or becoming to(~에 잘 맞다, 어울리다)
ex) I don't think that red suits you very well.
3. Reach : the range of effective power(닿는 범위)
ex) An 'A' in the course is just out of my reach.
4. Span : a distance or length(거리, 길이)
ex) The span of the bridge is the longest in the world.
5. Stride : a long step in walking(보폭)
ex) His strides were so great that the boy had to run just to keep up.
6. Phenomenally : extraordinarily, exceptionally(비상하게, 엄청나게)
ex) The game system was phenomenally successful in Asia.
7. Fellow : a man or boy(남자)
ex) Her sense of humor made her popular with all the fellows.
8. Swarm : to congregate or group in a specific area(모여들다. 떼를 짓다)
ex) All of the kids swarmed around the swimming pool.
9. Hive : a shelter constructed for bees(벌통)
ex) The bear broke opem the hive in search of honey.
10. Arch : something bowed or curved(활처럼 굽은 것[모양])
ex) Because he ran so frequently, Tom began to have problems with the arches of his feet.
11. Bow : to bend as if to show reverence, submission, or recognition(머리를 숙이다)
ex) It is a tradition in many Asian countries to bow when meeting others.
12. Palm : the inner part of the hand from the wrist to the base of the fingers(손바닥)
ex) Maria went to the fortune teller to have her palm read.

첫댓글 테디님 수고 넘 많았어요. 수비니어로 가져오신 쪼코렛트와 캄보디아 돈 넘 기분 좋았답니다. 특히 오래만에 외쿡 새배돈 받는 기분^^ 그리고 짧은 시간이였지만 미쉘, 테디 등 조용하시던 분들의 또다른 면들을 볼 수 있었던 즐거운 시간이예요. 다음에도 저번처럼 번개치삼~~!! 그리고 탐님은 초강력 미녀분과 러브라인 잘 형성되었으면 해요.ㅋ
