제목: 믿음은 시험을 통해 삶으로 드러납니다

“우리가 살아도 주를 위하여 살고 죽어도 주를 위하여 죽나니 그러므로 사나 죽으나 우리가 주의 것이로다.”

“믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하지 못하나니 하나님께 나아가는 자는 반드시 그가 계신 것과 또한 그가 자기를 찾는 자들에게 상 주시는 이심을 믿어야 할지니라.”

“믿음의 실체가 현실로 드러나려면 그 믿음은 반드시 시험을 거쳐야 합니다. 믿음은 성령의 능력에 의하여 전 인격이 하나님과 바른 관계를 맺는 것입니다.”

<묵상칼럼 : 믿음은 시험을 통해 그 실체가 드러납니다>

  믿음은 평안하고 모든 일이 잘될 때만 나타나는 것이 아닙니다. 오히려 어려움과 고난, 예상하지 못한 상황을 만났을 때 우리가 무엇을 의지하고 있는지가 분명하게 드러납니다. 시험은 우리의 믿음을 무너뜨리기 위한 것만이 아니라, 그 믿음이 얼마나 하나님을 신뢰하고 있는지를 드러내는 과정이기도 합니다.

   우리는 입술로 하나님을 믿는다고 고백할 수 있습니다. 그러나 삶의 현실 속에서도 하나님을 신뢰하고 있는지는 별개의 문제입니다. 상황이 바뀌어도 하나님을 바라보고, 손해를 보더라도 말씀에 순종하며, 이해할 수 없는 순간에도 주님의 선하심을 의지하는 것이 살아 있는 믿음입니다.

   챔버스는 믿음이 단순히 어떤 사실을 인정하거나 종교적인 지식을 갖는 것이 아니라고 말합니다. 믿음은 성령의 능력으로 우리의 생각과 마음과 의지, 그리고 삶 전체가 하나님과 바른 관계를 맺는 것입니다.

   그래서 참된 믿음은 예배당 안에서만 머물지 않습니다. 가정과 일터에서도 나타나고, 사람들과의 관계에서도 드러나며, 선택과 결정의 순간에도 나타납니다. 하나님을 믿는 사람은 자신의 뜻만을 앞세우지 않고 하나님의 뜻을 구하며 살아갑니다.

  로마서 14장 8절은 믿음의 가장 깊은 고백을 들려줍니다. 우리는 살아도 주님을 위하여 살고, 죽어도 주님을 위하여 죽는 사람들입니다. 왜냐하면 우리의 생명과 존재 자체가 주님의 것이기 때문입니다.

   그러므로 믿음의 사람에게 중요한 것은 얼마나 많은 것을 소유했느냐가 아니라 누구에게 속한 사람으로 살아가느냐입니다. 형편이 좋을 때나 어려울 때나, 건강할 때나 약할 때나, 우리의 주인은 변하지 않습니다. 주님께 속한 사람이라는 사실이 우리의 삶을 지탱하는 가장 확실한 근거입니다.

<오늘의 적용>

나는 평안할 때만 하나님을 믿는 사람입니까? 아니면 시험과 어려움 속에서도 나의 전 인격과 삶을 주님께 맡기며 살아가는 사람입니까?

<오늘의 결단과 기도>

  주님, 입술로만 믿음을 고백하는 사람이 아니라 삶으로 믿음의 실체를 드러내는 사람이 되게 하소서. 시험과 어려움 앞에서도 주님을 신뢰하게 하시고, 성령의 능력으로 나의 생각과 마음과 의지와 삶 전체가 하나님과 바른 관계를 맺게 하소서. 살아도 주님을 위하여 살고 죽어도 주님을 위하여 죽는, 주님께 속한 사람으로 살아가게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

Title: Faith Is Revealed Through Testing

“For if we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”

  “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

“For faith to become a reality in our lives, it must be tested. Faith is the whole personality rightly related to God through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

   Faith is not demonstrated only when life is peaceful and everything goes well. It is often through hardship, suffering, and unexpected circumstances that what we truly depend on becomes clear.

   We may confess with our lips that we believe in God, but trusting Him in the realities of everyday life is another matter. Genuine faith continues to look to God when circumstances change, obeys His Word even when it comes at a cost, and trusts His goodness even when we cannot understand what is happening.

   Chambers reminds us that faith is not simply agreeing with certain religious truths or possessing biblical knowledge. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, our thoughts, hearts, wills, and entire lives are brought into a right relationship with God.

   Therefore, genuine faith does not remain inside the church building. It is revealed in our homes, workplaces, relationships, and everyday decisions. A person who truly believes in God seeks His will rather than simply pursuing personal desires.

   Romans 14:8 gives us one of the deepest confessions of faith: We live for the Lord, and we die for the Lord. Why? Because our lives and our very existence belong to Him.

   What matters most for a person of faith is not how much we possess, but whose we are. Whether our circumstances are good or difficult, whether we are healthy or weak, our Lord never changes. Knowing that we belong to Christ is the firmest foundation on which we can build our lives.

Do I trust God only when life is peaceful, or do I surrender my whole being and my circumstances to Him even in times of testing and difficulty?

<Today's Prayer>

  Lord, help me to be someone whose faith is revealed through my life, not merely through words. Teach me to trust You in times of testing and difficulty. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, bring my thoughts, heart, will, and entire life into a right relationship with You. May I live for You and, even in death, belong to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
