English Essay
We can contribute to society by analyzing healthcare statistics regarding nurse staffing shortages and proposing practical solutions for regional medical environments.
During the first semester, Florence Nightingale had been researched by myself to examine how statistical data can reform medical systems. Florence Nightingale herself collected and visualized mortality data during the Crimean War to prove that inadequate sanitary conditions and low nurse-to-patient ratios directly increased death rates. Through her analytical approach, I realized that analyzing current healthcare numbers is an essential step before entering the medical field. High school students often feel that they cannot make a real impact on complex healthcare issues, but studying Nightingale's methods showed me that empirical research can be started at any stage of education.
Before her pioneering data analysis was published, systemic problems in field hospitals had been neglected by medical officials. Nightingale herself organized vast amounts of clinical data into polar area diagrams to persuade policymakers and improve patient environments. Inspired by her methodology, I recognized that high school students can also investigate structural problems such as nurse-to-patient ratios and regional health disparities. Many local hospitals currently suffer from severe nursing shortages, which leads to excessive workload, high turnover rates, and reduced quality of patient care.
To apply her scientific spirit today, I will conduct an in-depth research project on nurse staffing shortages in local healthcare facilities. Essential data analysis techniques had been emphasized by Nightingale as the cornerstone of public health reform. Using public health databases and regional medical statistics, I will analyze the correlation between the number of active nurses per bed and patient safety outcomes across different cities. I plan to map out regional healthcare disparities to identify areas where medical staff allocation is severely imbalanced.
In addition, the necessity of supportive working environments for medical workers had been highlighted by her historical research. I will dedicate myself to drafting concrete policy proposals and school research reports that advocate for legal nurse-to-patient ratio limits. Furthermore, I will create awareness campaigns within my school community to inform peers about the importance of medical infrastructure and public health awareness. Through these structured analytical efforts, I will develop the core competencies of a data-driven healthcare leader who contributes to systemic healthcare improvements.
