Terror Attacks Cast Shadow on the Future of Cricket in Pakistan
A shadow has been cast on the future of South Asia’s favorite sport in Pakistan after the Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked by heavily armed terrorists on Tuesday. Six police officers and a driver were killed in the attacks, which also left several of the players and an umpire wounded. Pakistan is supposed to be one of the hosts of the next cricket World Cup in 2011, along with India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The International Cricket Council President David Morgan told reporters that “Quite clearly, this event puts a great question mark over the ability of Pakistan to host cricket World Cup matches.” Until quite recently, cricket matches between Pakistan and India were credited with healing the rift between the two countries, but India put a freeze on its national team playing in Pakistan after the Mumbai attacks in November.

Jim Yong Kim Becomes First Asian-American Head of Ivy League School
Jim Yong Kim, a Korean-American physician who currently holds the chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard University, has been named Dartmouth College’s next president. He will take up the mantle to become the college’s 17th president since its founding in 1769, and will succeed James Wright, who has decided to step down after 11 years. He is the first Asian-American to be appointed president of an Ivy League school. Kim was valedictorian, president of his class at his high school, quarterback for the school football team and got his MD and PHD from Harvard University. "At some point” said Kim, “you have to decide whether you're going to keep throwing your body at a problem, which is what I've always done." He went on to say that he now wants to raise an army of leaders who can solve the world’s problems.
