Today's Devotional Column
October 31, 2026 · Yesan Sujeong Church
<God's Goodness and Love Follow Me Every Day>
<Today's Scripture | Psalm 23:6 (NIV)>
"Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."
1) God's Goodness Is Always Following Me
There are times when we look back on our lives. Sometimes we remember our regrets more than our blessings, and our moments of pain more vividly than our moments of joy. But when we look at our lives through the eyes of faith, we discover that God's gracious hand has been with us through every season.
David declares, "Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life."
The word "follow" carries a deeper meaning than simply walking behind someone. It can also mean to pursue or chase after. David is describing God's goodness and faithful love as actively pursuing him throughout his life.
Even when we forget God, He never forgets us. Even when we stumble and become discouraged, His grace does not abandon us. This is because God's faithfulness is greater than our failures and weaknesses.
Our lives have not brought us this far simply because things happened to go well. We are here today because God's goodness and love have sustained us.
2) God's Grace Continues Throughout Our Lives
David does not say that God's goodness and love will follow him for just a moment or a season. He confidently declares that they will follow him "all the days of my life."
We do not know what tomorrow will bring. We cannot predict what challenges or difficulties may lie ahead. But there is one thing we can know with certainty: our circumstances may change, but God's love for us never changes.
We need God's grace when we are young, and we need it as we grow older. We need His faithful love in times of prosperity and His goodness in times of hardship.
God does not always give us everything we want in the way we want it. But He never abandons His children. He faithfully leads us according to His good purposes.
Therefore, instead of worrying about what has not yet happened, we should remember how faithfully God has led us until now and entrust our future to Him.
3) Our Eternal Hope Is to Dwell in the House of the Lord
David's confession does not end with the assurance that God's goodness and love will accompany him throughout his life.
He declares, "I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."
What David truly desired was not merely a prosperous life or comfortable circumstances. His greatest desire was to live in the presence of God and worship Him.
Our lives do not end with this earthly existence. For those who believe in Jesus Christ, there is the eternal hope of God's kingdom. The greatest blessing of a believer is to walk with the Lord throughout this earthly life and finally dwell in His eternal presence.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Look back on your life. You will probably discover that there were far more moments when God held on to you than moments when you held on to God.
Even today, God's goodness and faithful love are pursuing you. Therefore, give thanks for the past, live by faith today, and entrust tomorrow to God.
Our lives began by God's grace, are sustained by His grace, and will ultimately lead us into His eternal home.
<Prayer of Commitment>
Heavenly Father, when I look back on my life, I realize that everything has been Your grace. You protected me even when I was unaware of Your presence, lifted me up whenever I stumbled, and faithfully led me to this very day.
Help me to trust Your goodness and faithful love throughout the days ahead. May I walk with You every day and live with the eternal hope of Your kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
