Summary:
Jesus tells His disciples that He will soon speak to them plainly about the Father rather than in figurative language. He assures them that the Father loves them because they have loved and believed in Him. Jesus declares that He came from the Father into the world and will soon return to the Father. The disciples express their belief in Him, but Jesus warns that they will soon scatter and leave Him alone—though He is not truly alone because the Father is with Him. He concludes by encouraging them to find peace in Him, acknowledging that while they will face trouble in the world, He has overcome it.
Teaching:
Jesus said, “An hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.” That time is now. He has sent the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, and now is the time when everything is being revealed in Jesus.
To live by faith that enters into Jesus’ tribulation, kingdom, and perseverance, it is impossible without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. We may sincerely believe in Jesus, attend church, serve, and even offer money - but without the Holy Spirit, that faith has its limits. It is the Holy Spirit who helps us go beyond those limits.
“These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
When we believe in Jesus, He gives us peace - that is His true gift to us. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we can actually experience that peace through His help. So even in tribulation, poverty, or sickness, we do not lose heart. The reason is that Jesus has overcome everything.
