동족포식(同族 捕食; cannibalism)이란 어떤 동물 개체가 자신과 동일한 종의 동물 개체를
먹이로 잡아먹는 것을 말한다. 동족포식은 동물계에 매우 흔한 현상이며, 1,500 종 이상의
종이 동족포식을 하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 사람이 동족포식을 하는 것을 특히 식인이라
일컫는다. 자연계에서 동족포식을 전혀 하지 않는 동물은 육식을 할 수 있는 이상 거의 없다.
