열왕기상12장 말씀입니다.

1. 르호보암이 세겜으로 갔으니 이는 온 이스라엘이 그를 왕으로 삼으려고 세겜에 이르렀기 때문이더라.

And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

2. 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 아직 이집트에 있었을 때에 그 소문을 들었더라. (그는 전에 솔로몬 왕의 앞을 떠나

    도망하여 이집트에 거하였는데)

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard [of it], from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;

3. 그들이 사람을 보내어 그를 불렀더라. 여로보암과 이스라엘 온 회중이 와서 르호보암에게 말하여 이르되,

That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

4. 왕의 아버지가 우리의 멍에를 고통스럽게 하였사오니 그러므로 이제 왕은 왕의 아버지가 우리에게 지워 준

    고통스런 일과 또 그의 무거운 멍에를 가볍게 하소서. 그리하시면 우리가 왕을 섬기겠나이다, 하니

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

5. 르호보암이 그들에게 이르되, 사흘 동안 떠나갔다가 다시 내게로 오라, 하매 백성이 떠나가니라.

And he said unto them, Depart yet [for] three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

6. 르호보암 왕이 자기 아버지 솔로몬이 아직 살아 있을 때에 그 앞에 섰던 노인들과 의논하여 이르되,

    너희는 내가 이 백성에게 대답하도록 어떻게 조언하겠느냐? 하니

And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?

7. 그들이 그에게 말하여 이르되, 왕이 만일 이 날 이 백성의 종이 되어 그들을 섬기고 그들에게 좋은 말로 대답하여

    이르시면 그들이 영원토록 왕의 종이 되리이다, 하니라.

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

8. 그러나 왕이 노인들의 권고 즉 그들이 자기에게 준 권고를 버리고 자기 앞에 서 있던 자들 곧 자기와 함께 자란

    청년들과 의논하여

But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, [and] which stood before him:

9. 그들에게 이르되, 너희는 우리가 이 백성에게 대답하도록 어떤 권고를 주겠느냐? 백성이 내게 말하여 이르기를,

    왕의 아버지가 우리에게 지워 준 멍에를 가볍게 하소서, 하였느니라, 하매

And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?

10. 그와 함께 자란 청년들이 그에게 말하여 이르되, 이 백성이 왕께 아뢰어 이르기를, 왕의 아버지가 우리의 멍에를

      무겁게 하였으나 왕은 우리를 위해 그것을 가볍게 하소서, 하였은즉 왕은 이같이 그들에게 말하고 이같이 그들에게

      이르기를, 내 새끼손가락이 내 아버지의 허리보다 굵으리니

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou [it] lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little [finger] shall be thicker than my fathers loins.

11. 이제 내 아버지가 너희에게 무거운 멍에를 지워 주었으나 나는 너희 멍에에 더하리라. 내 아버지는 채찍으로

      너희를 벌하였으나 나는 전갈로 너희를 벌하리라, 하소서, 하니라.

And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

12. 왕이 정하여 이르기를, 셋째 날에 다시 내게로 오라, 하였으므로 이에 셋째 날에 여로보암과 온 백성이

      르호보암에게 나아왔더라.

So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.

13. 왕이 백성에게 거칠게 대답하며 노인들이 자기에 준 권고를 버리고

And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old mens counsel that they gave him; 

14. 청년들의 권고를 따라 그들에게 말하여 이르되, 내 아버지는 너희 멍에를 무겁게 하였으나 나는 너희 멍에에

      더하리라. 또한 내 아버지는 채찍으로 너희를 벌하였으나 나는 전갈로 너희를 벌하리라, 하니라.

And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father [also] chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

15. 그런 까닭에 왕이 백성의 말에 귀를 기울이지 아니하였으니 이는 그 원인이 {주}에게서 났기 때문이라.

      이것은 {주}께서 전에 실로 사람 아히야를 통해 느밧의 아들 여로보암에게 하신 말씀 곧 자신의 말씀을 친히

      이행하려 하심이더라.

Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16. 이처럼 왕이 자기들의 말에 귀를 기울이지 아니함을 온 이스라엘이 보고 백성이 왕에게 응답하여 이르되,

      다윗 안에서 우리에게 무슨 몫이 있느냐? 이새의 아들 안에서 우리에게 상속 재산이 없도다. 오 이스라엘아,

      너희 장막으로 가라. 다윗이여, 이제 네 집이나 돌아보라, 하고 이처럼 이스라엘이 떠나서 자기 장막으로 가니라.

So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither [have we] inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

17. 그러나 유다의 도시들에 거하던 이스라엘 자손으로 말하건대 르호보암이 그들을 통치하니라.

But [as for] the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18. 그때에 르호보암 왕이 공세를 감독하던 아도람을 보내었더니 온 이스라엘이 그를 돌로 쳐서 죽이니라.

      그러므로 르호보암 왕이 급히 자기 수레에 올라 예루살렘으로 도망하였더라.

Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who [was] over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. 

19. 이와 같이 이스라엘이 다윗의 집에 반역을 일으켜 이 날까지 이르렀더라.

So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day. 

20. 여로보암이 돌아왔다는 것을 온 이스라엘이 듣고 사람을 보내어 그를 회중에게로 불러 온 이스라엘을 다스릴

      왕으로 삼으니 유다 지파 외에는 다윗의 집을 따르는 자가 아무도 없더라.

And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

21.르호보암이 예루살렘에 이르러 유다의 온 집과 베냐민 지파를 모았는데 선정된 자들 곧 용사들이 십팔만 명이더라.

     이들이 이스라엘의 집과 싸워 왕국을 다시 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암에게 가져오려 하였으나

And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

22. [하나님]의 말씀이 [하나님]의 사람 스마야에게 임하니라. 이르시되,

But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

23. 솔로몬의 아들 유다 왕 르호보암과 유다와 베냐민의 온 집과 또 백성 가운데 남은 자들에게 말하여 이르기를,

Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

24. {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 너희는 올라가지 말며 또 너희 형제 이스라엘 자손과 싸우지 말고 각각 자기 집으로

      돌아가라. 이 일은 내게서 났느니라, 하라, 하시니라. 그러므로 그들이 {주}의 말씀에 귀를 기울이고 {주}의 말씀에

      따라 떠나서 돌아갔더라.

Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

25. 그때에 여로보암이 에브라임 산에 세겜을 건축하고 그 안에 거하며 또 거기서 나아가 브느엘을 건축하고

Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

26. 마음속으로 이르기를, 이제 왕국이 다윗의 집으로 돌아가리로다.

And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:

27. 만일 이 백성이 예루살렘에 있는 {주}의 집에서 희생물을 드리려고 올라가면 이 백성의 마음이 그들의 주 유다 왕

      곧 르호보암에게로 다시 돌아가 그들이 나를 죽이고 유다 왕 르호보암에게로 다시 돌아가리로다, 하고

If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, [even] unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

28. 이것에 관하여 왕이 의논한 뒤 금송아지 둘을 만들고 그들에게 이르기를, 너희가 예루살렘에 올라가는 일이 너무

      큰일이로다. 오 이스라엘아, 너희를 이집트 땅에서 데리고 올라온 네 신들을 보라, 하니라.

Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves [of] gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

29. 그가 하나는 벧엘에 두고 다른 하나는 단에 두었으므로

And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

30. 이 일이 죄가 되었으니 이는 백성들이 금송아지들 중 하나 앞에서 경배하려고 단에까지 갔기 때문이더라.

And this thing became a sin: for the people went [to worship] before the one, [even] unto Dan.

31. 그가 또 산당들의 집을 짓고 레위의 아들들이 아닌 자들 곧 백성 중에서 가장 천한 자들을 제사장으로 삼았으며

And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

32. 또 여로보암이 유다에 있는 명절처럼 팔월 곧 그 달 십오일에 명절을 정하고 또 제단 위에 헌물을 드리니라.

      또 그가 벧엘에서도 그와 같이 행하여 자기가 만든 송아지들에게 희생물을 드렸으며 또 자기가 만든 산당들의

      제사장들을 벧엘에 두었더라.

And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that [is] in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made. 

33. 이와 같이 그가 자기 마음속으로 생각하여 정한 달 곧 팔월 십오일에 자기가 벧엘에 쌓은 제단 위에 헌물을

      드렸으며 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 명절을 정하고 제단 위에 헌물을 드리고 분향하니라.

So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, [even] in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.
