Summary:
Jesus prays to the Father to protect His disciples as He prepares to leave the world. He asks God to keep them united and safe from the evil one. Jesus has given them God's word, which has caused the world to hate them because they no longer belong to it, just as He does not.
Teaching:
Our God is the Helper God - He guards and protects us. He guards and protects us so that not one of us will perish, so that our lives will not collapse while we are alive, and so that we will not fall into hell after death.
If a life becomes evil and ends up in hell as a result of that evil, that person is a child of destruction. Just as we see in Scripture with Jacob and Esau, Isaac and Ishmael, it becomes revealed and divided according to the Bible.
The same goes for the church. There are people who go to church but are not saved -people who live in direct opposition to Jesus.
“I am not asking You to take them out of the world, but to keep them away from the evil one.”
Evil is a will that opposes the will of God. If it is God’s will, we must simply obey and submit. When someone speaks God’s will, we must obey and submit. Even now, Jesus is praying that we will not fall into evil.
