Summary:
Jesus asks the Father to make His followers holy through the truth of God's word. Just as the Father sent Jesus into the world, Jesus sends His followers. He sets Himself apart for their sake, so they too may be truly sanctified.
Teaching:
To make us holy, Jesus was crucified and died on the cross.
“Sanctify them in the truth.”
This gospel of the cross is the word of truth. The Father's word is truth, and truth is true. The Word is the word of God. The way we become holy is by being sanctified through the truth. The Holy Spirit is also the Spirit of truth.
Truth is what is right. The Holy Spirit reminds us of the Word and helps us understand it, leading us to walk in the right path. Therefore, our faith must always be alert. We must be awake to hear the Word.
We, too, are royal priests — to offer holy sacrifices, we must be made holy. By obeying the Word and obeying the truth, we purify ourselves. The Holy Spirit sanctifies us, and we also sanctify ourselves by the word of truth.
