Summary:
Jesus goes to a familiar garden with His disciples, where Judas leads soldiers and officials to arrest Him. Jesus steps forward, identifies Himself, and protects His disciples by asking that they be let go. Peter tries to defend Jesus by cutting off a servant’s ear, but Jesus tells him to put away the sword, accepting the suffering He must face as part of God's plan.
Teaching:
Jesus strives not to lose us. He leads us because we might betray Him like Judas or deny Him like Peter. When we follow His guidance, we receive the Holy Spirit, and when we are filled with the Spirit, we accept the cup the Father has given us—that is, the events of our lives.
We must walk with Jesus and act according to His will. Just as Jesus revealed Himself by saying, “I am He,” we too must not hide that we are believers, but openly live in a way that God’s works are fulfilled through us.
