Today's Devotional Column (November 2) |
Yesan Sujeong Church | I Obey Because I Love the Lord
<Today's Scripture | Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)>
“Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.”
<Related Scripture | John 14:15 (NIV)>
“If you love me, keep my commands.”
<Today's Devotional Column : I Obey Because I Love the Lord>
Oswald Chambers reminds us that if our relationship with the Lord is one of love, we will not hesitate to obey Him. The Lord does not force us into obedience. Rather, He calls us into a loving relationship in which our hearts willingly desire to follow Him.
Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands.” Obedience is not a price we pay to earn God's love. It is the natural fruit of a heart that already loves Him.
Sometimes we think of obedience as a burden or an obligation. But when we truly love the Lord, obedience is no longer something we reluctantly endure. It becomes an expression of our desire to please the One we love.
Proverbs 19:21 reminds us that although we may have many plans in our hearts, it is ultimately the Lord's purpose that prevails.
We make plans for tomorrow, anticipate certain outcomes, and hope that things will happen according to our expectations. Yet our thoughts and God's will do not always coincide.
True faith is not about stubbornly holding on to our own plans. It is about trusting God and surrendering ourselves to His perfect purpose, even when His direction differs from our expectations.
Surrendering to God's will does not mean that we must stop making plans. It means trusting that His plans are wiser, better, and more complete than our own.
Dear brothers and sisters, today we need to ask ourselves:
Do I obey the Lord because I love Him, or do I follow Him simply because I feel obligated to do so?
When our relationship with the Lord is founded on love, obedience is not driven by fear but becomes a decision of faith flowing from love.
Today, seek His will rather than putting your own desires first. Trust Him even when you cannot understand His ways. And when He leads you in a direction different from your own, choose to obey Him in love.
Love gives birth to obedience, and obedience leads us into a life that fulfills God's purpose.
