GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT VIETNAM’S PLASTIC PIPE MARKET  ○ In comparison with other kinds of construction materials, plastic pipe is one of the most stable products in the market. Occupying 80% market share of plastic pines in the North and South, two big firms Tien Phong and Binh Minh have played a dominant role in the market. However, these two firms do not satisfy with their market so they are trying to expand the business.  ○ Plastic pipes are used in many areas such as construction, agriculture, postal, telecommunication and in other industries. Therefore, the potential of developing plastic pipe in Vietnam is huge. The materials to produce plastic pipes including PVC, PP beads, PE beads, PS beads are mostly imported. So, the price of this product depends greatly on the resin price in the world and exchange rate fluctuation. In addition, the commission, discount rate for dealers and customer also greatly affect the product prices.  ○ Currently, Tien Phong plastic and Binh Minh plastic are two biggest enterprises in construction plastic. The Tien Phong dominates the North market and Binh Minh dominates the South market. According to a recent report of Bao Viet Security Company, Tien Phong plastic accounts for over 70% market share in the North.  ○ Besides to above brands, the market also has the participation of other brands such as De Nhat, Phuc Ha, Cuc Phuong, Minh Hung, Vinaconex, Sino, etc., leading to the fierce competition in the market.  ○ Popular plastic pine products in Vietnam are PVC, PE, PPR. Among these kinds, PVC is the most popular type, followed by PE and PPR. According to Vietnam Plastic Association, local manufacturers of plastic pine reached the growth rate of 20-25% in 2010. The market plastic pine is dominated by local manufacturers thanks to good reputation, price and quality. PPR plastic pipes have appeared in the market recently, however it has attracted the attention of local consumers, construction companies due to advance features in comparison with other kinds of pipes.  ○ So far, there is EX-TEX Vina Co., Ltd importing and distributing Korean plastic pipes. It is distributing the Aikang Remetech plastic pipes.  ○ KOTRA HCM has interviewed Mr. Ngan: Mr. Ngan said that PPR pipes are very popular in Vietnam. There are many products of local manufacturers in the market. The price and quality is good. Besides the domestic products, the company also imports PPR from Malaysia or Thailand. Their brands are popular and preferable in Vietnam. The company has never heard about Korean PB in Vietnam.  ○ Due to the redundant PB sources of local manufacturers and the harshly competition among brands, new foreign PB companies will get difficulties to compete with the current brands to penetrate this market.  ○ When being introduced about Korean PB manufacturer, the company is interested in receiving information about PB products of Korean companies.
