English Verse Translation
A lone bowl body wandering to the edge of the sky,
Meeting travelers, sharing half a cup of spring tea.
The rise and fall of worldly affairs drift away like water,
Only the taste of tea remains, washing the dust of the world.
Short Commentary (English)
This tea poem expresses the spirit of a wandering Zen monk.
With nothing but a bowl, he travels across the world.
When he meets someone on the road, even half a cup of tea becomes spring shared between two people.
Worldly rise and fall pass away like flowing water.
Yet the quiet fragrance of tea remains, cleansing the dust of the human mind.
In Zen tradition,
a single cup of tea is itself a teaching of awakening.
