"One Strike: New Perspectives, Challenges, and Commitment through USA HK Seminar 2024"

For those who have practiced Haedong Kumdo for 10 or 20 years or more, if you ask them whether they know how to perform a straight frontal strike (정면베기), they will confidently respond that they know it well, and they might even question why such a foolish question is being asked.

Prior to the 2024 USA seminar event, I requested senior masters and instructors to participate in the 2024 U.S. seminar publicly on Facebook in order to eval‎uate their own level of proficiency in HK if they don't mind.

As the founder of the JinyoungSsangkumRyu HK, I'm not saying this because I believe my abilities surpass theirs or because my movements are more flexible and faster. Rather, it's because the young masters and instructors of the 20s or 30s may have much superior physical abilities.

Understanding that the essence of martial arts lies on the same continuum as the essence of all things, I sought to convey this.

It's the understanding that the skills, philosophy, and healing of martial arts all stem from one principle.

Throughout this seminar in the United States from April 5 to 7, I focused on explaining and letting them experience the fundamentals all the way through.

Due to time constraints, I could only briefly explain the basics of Kimu, Weisu, Ssangsu, Ssangkum, and so on , which are the most crucial parts.

Let's get back to the main point.

Questions about frontal strikes(정면베기):

1. Do you simply think of it as cutting straight ahead in a straight line?

2. Can you explain the correct path of cutting, which is the path of the blade, that is, the front?

3. Can you show the path where energy naturally extends according to the principles of body movement?

4. If you understand that, can you then tell us how and what to practice next?

5. Have you ever thought about how to tell a story and discuss philosophy through a single strike?

6. Have you ever imagined why you can even bring up such stories?

All of the above can not be explained correctly with common sense and knowledge alone. If attempted, it would only be as noisy as an empty can, merely presenting numerous empty phrases.

Understanding "energy flow" and experiencing it firsthand are necessary for explaining it, but even then, it can vary greatly depending on the level.

Anyway, such a beginning starts to change one's thinking and brings about a change in consciousness.

In Haedong Kumdo, through various grading tests and diverse championships, one can enhance a sense of achievement and joy, as well as foster strong friendships and self-esteem.

However,
these visible aspects are merely physical satisfaction and happiness.

The invisible aspects, such as inner joy and consciousness shift leading to inner activation, can not be compared with anything in this world.

The Jinyoung Ssangkum Ryu HK educational curriculum clearly outlines its fundamentals and processes, as well as succinctly presents the goals of martial arts and the ultimate goals of human life.

Therefore,
through this USA Seminar event 2024,

With new insight
New perspectives,
New challenges,
New commitment,
And new determination,

Building upon the educational curriculum of the established Haedong Kumdo, such as sword techniques and strikes with one sword,

Efforts were made to cultivate skills and abilities on a higher level with one and two swords, and Kimu practice.

Through the pursuit of new values and consciousness change,

I hope for a qualitatively better practice of Haedong Kumdo throughout life

And wish for a healthy and happy life always.
