Summary:
Jesus carries His own cross to Golgotha, where He is crucified alongside two others. Pilate has a sign placed above Jesus that reads, “Jesus the Nazarene, the King of the Jews.” The sign is written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, which causes objections from the Jewish chief priests. They ask Pilate to change it to say Jesus claimed to be king, but Pilate refuses, saying, “What I have written, I have written.”
Teaching:
Now Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written: "JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS."
This means Pilate ordered it to be written this way. Although Pilate wanted to release Jesus, the Jews opposed it, leading to the crucifixion. He had the inscription written just as the Jews had accused Him.
The chief priests were not pleased with the sign and asked Pilate to change it to: “He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’” But Pilate refused.
Jesus is the King. Jesus also answered Pilate’s question accordingly. Yet, the reason He died was for us. If we truly believe Jesus is our King, shouldn't we also follow in His path? As we approach the end times, it seems we too will walk the road Jesus walked. We must train ourselves to have unshakable faith.
