Section 14 : Heo - Ryeng(虛靈,허령-Void and Spirit)... The Spirit that emerges from
nothingness... Chapter 17.
[ Main Exposition]
● Heo(虛,허/ The Void) means that tyere is absolutely nothing between heaven and earth.
● Ryenong(靈,령/ The spirit) refers to the mind acting as the primary agent of existence
after separating from the physical body.
● Heo - Ryeng(虛靈,허령) implies that because there are no secrets hidden within the mind,
one′s outward appearance becomes exceedingly noble and beautifully transparent,
like pure jade.
● From the very center of this empty space where nothing exists,
Qi(氣,기/ Vital Xnergy) is generated.
On a macro level, it spreads evenly throughout the entire universe,
on a micro level, it permeates down to the finest speck of dust.
● Therefore, the center(心,심/ the Mind) remains completely empty,
and this Qi(氣,기) is, in fact, the Ryeong(靈,영/ Spirit)
[Classical Text Translation]
■ 虛는 無物也오 靈은 心靈也라 虛靈者는 心無所蔽하야
(허는 무물야오 령은 심령야라 허령자는 심무소폐하야)
Those who achieve Heo - Ryeong have nothing hidden or concealed within their minds.
■ 犀色玲瓏하고 虛中生氣하야 大週天界하며 細入微塵하나니
(서색영롱하고 허중생기하야 대주천계하며 세입미진하나니)
Their appearance is bright and translucent, and Qi(Energy) is generated from within the Void.
Greatly, it encompassees the entire universe, finely, it enters into the microscopic dust.
■ 其心也虛 其氣且靈이라. (기심야허 기기차령이라.)
Its mind is eempty, and tis Qi is also the spirit.

동양 철학적 개념인 虛(허), 靈(령), 氣(기)는 각각 Void/ Emptiness, Spirit/Soul, Qi/ Vital Energyfh로 번역.
[ Explanation]
Section Overview.
This content discusses Li and Qi(理氣,이기) as explicitly codified and addressed in Baedal
Gyeonghak(倍達經學,배달경학/ The Study of Baedal Scriptures).
[Philosophical Breaakdown]
● Heo(虛 허/ The Void) is the place where Li(理,리/ Principle) exists.
● And Li(理,리) is the central core that creates and governs all Qi(氣,기/ Vital Energy).
● Ryeong(靈,령/ Spirit) is the Li(理,리) that resides within the human mind.
● Having no secrets or hidden things within the mind means that there is no
Chaos(混沌,혼돈) insside the mind.
● It signifies that if the human mind is ftee of Chaos(混沌,혼돈),
the Ryeong(靈,령) within the mind can reach across all things in the universe,
extending to both the infinitely small(無限小,무한소) and the infinitely great(無限大,무한대).
[Structural and Numerical Principles]
● This text describes how Li(理,리) rationlizes abd transforms Qi(氣,기) ― a process
referred to as Rhee - hwa(理化,이화/ Transformation through Principle)
● Furthermore, it explains that 36 rationalizes and transforms 64(理化,이화) to become 45,
which serves as the structural principle for the text′s Xight Cardinal Principles(팔강령)
and the Upper and Lower Scriptures(상하경).
[Key Terms Reference]
■ Li(理,리) : principle, Reason, or Ultimate Law(우주의 근본 원리).
■ Qi(氣,기) : Vital Energy, Force, or Material Force(만물의 에너지가 되는 기).
■ Rhee - hwa(理化,리화) : Transformation through Principle(이치에 맞게 변화시킴).
