#5 Universities should do something important for
students who want to get a job.
Over the past few decades, many types of
University programs have been initiated for students’ well-being after graduation. So, it has been argued whether
Universities should do something important for students who want to get a job.
Some might argue that Universities have no reason to do such a thing for students
because Universities are meant for education before graduation. Others might
disagree with this statement. However, I am fully convinced that Universities
must help graduating students become hired for the sake of both the
Universities themselves and the condition of the society. I have a couple of
reasons to support my idea. I will explain and develop them in the next
following paragraphs below.
To begin with, helping students get suitable jobs
is beneficial to the universities’ images and reputations because it proves
that such universities are highly capable of
producing favorable workers. University is a place where students go in order
to become intelligent enough to become favored in their job fields. However, if
universities do not support students to get hired, such universities will be
known to have low-quality educational systems. Although some people might say
that there is no reason to expect universities to be responsible for students’
lives outside of campus, universities that do not support students to get a job
will never be called ‘elite schools’. For instance, there was a survey among a group
of high-school graduates who are preparing for
college and university. The questions were mainly about what school they want
to attend most and why. We may expect everyone to choose the “Ivy League”
schools as their dream schools, however,
some of them chose above-average schools as their goals. Nevertheless, they all
wanted to go to their dream universities for the same reason: better career
opportunities due to the support of the universities. No matter what university the majority of students choose,
students are attending universities to become hired eventually. Some students
did agree that there is no reason for universities
to help students get hired after graduation, but universities will never have
prominent freshman if they do not support
them to be employed or hired as educated
workers in the business field. Therefore, it is reasonable for universities to
help students become hired.
Second, universities must help students get
suitable jobs in order to stop the increase of the employed graduates all over the world. In today’s society, even the
graduates from elite schools are having unemployment
problems. At first, the government thought this would be fixed if there were
more jobs. However, the number of jobs isn’t the cause of such social problem
because there are many decent jobs that need more employees. The problem
revealed to be universities’ education and support. There aren’t enough
universities helping graduates become hired. Although some people might say
that the reason such students are not being employed
is because of the lack of skill of the
students themselves, it is the universities’
job to help even the most untalented students to find their place in the
business field. For example, my sister had a hard time in her first two years
of university because she had selected the wrong major for her life. She was
majoring computer-technology when what she really wanted to learn was psychology.
She had low grades and didn’t put much effort in her studies. However, her
university had a lot of counseling programs for students who are trying to find
their path to success after graduation. My sister met a wonderful counselor,
changed her major and was able to find further programs supporting her getting
hired after graduation years later. She was able to find a decent job for
herself as a psychiatrist who helps many mentally ill patients. If it had not
been the help of the school, she wouldn't
have been employed. Not only her, but many others are struggling to get full
support of the university in order to get career opportunities. Teachers are
not only people who open doors but also people who push the student through
them. Likewise, if universities are not responsible for the future of society’s
workers, I don’t know who are.
