Summary:
Jesus, knowing His mission was completed and to fulfill Scripture, says, "I am thirsty." He is given sour wine on a sponge. After receiving it, He says, "It is finished!" and then bows His head and dies.
Teaching:
“knowing that all things had already been accomplished”
John the Baptist called Jesus “the Lamb of God.” He is the Lamb of God who died for all of us. Though He is the Son of God, He became the Lamb who was slain, bearing the sins of the world. Jesus knew this and lived for this purpose.
It was God who worked and called Jesus to do His work, so Jesus carried it out. While doing God’s work, the Father was with Him. Even now, as He dies on the cross, the Father is still with Him - yet He allowed Him to die. Both God the Father and the Son gave everything to accomplish our salvation. That’s why Jesus obeyed, even to the point of death.
