Marrage Covenant and Declaration of Marrage

The following two documents were used for the marraige of my relative which was in Seoul on November last year. They are direct translation of Korean 혼인서약 and 성혼선언문. A little curious if there is a similar type of document in western countries.

MARRIAGE COVENANT

Do both of you,

the bridegroom Lee, Soo-Il

and

the bride Shim, Sun-Ae,

take an oath of committing yourself,

under all circumstances and at all times,

to love and esteem each other,

to be respectful to your elders,

 and

to do faithful duty of husband and wife?

I believe that the covenant of marriage is a public pledge of love and devotion to one another. It is too crucial for their loving, life-giving and faithful relationship that will last for a lifetime.

DECLARATION OF MARRIAGE

Now,

the bridegroom Lee, Soo-Il

and

the bride Shim, Sun-Ae,

before their family, relatives and friends,

have proclaimed firmly to become husband and wife

to share their joys and sorrows for a lifetime.

I, master of ceremony, hereupon declare solemnly before all of you

that this marriage has gotten perfectly effective.
