Commentary on John2 (1)
The Lord said in Luke 13:32-33 that today and tomorrow I will drive out demons and heal, and on the third day I will be perfect.
And he says, "today and tomorrow and the day after tomorrow I must go on my way, no prophet can die outside Jerusalem."
At exactly 9 o'clock, or 3 p.m., when the Passover lamb is slaughtered, the Lord bowed his head and gave up his spirit (John 19:30), becoming the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world.
And after the Feast of Unleavened Bread, he rose from the grave on the first day after rest.
It is the first day after rest.
It is referring to after the three days today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow.
Three days later, the way to heaven opens and Christ becomes the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).
Chapter 2 of the Gospel of John is connected to the wedding feast in Cana on the third day(John 2:1) and the story of the temple that Jesus will raise up in three days (John 2:19-20).
This is the pattern of the Gospel of John, where an event occurs before and is explained later.
Being married to Jesus Christ means that our body becomes a temple where Christ dwells.
From then on, it changes and matures into completely different character, just like water changes into wine.
Therefore, if you do not follow Christ after the three days , it will be like turning a mill in the same place for the rest of your life.
Just as water becomes wine, the change in quality is the meeting with Christ, the Word.
He came as Jesus, died on the cross, shed blood, rose again three days, cleansed the heavenly sanctuary with his blood, and then sent the Holy Spirit to become the head of the church.
The head and body are united, but Jesus cannot be called Lord without the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3)
This means that without the Holy Spirit, you cannot become one with Christ and receive him as your personal savior.
In the Middle East, people drink wine instead of water to quench their thirst by drinking wine that is absorbed directly from the stomach instead of water absorbed from the intestines. This wine also brings joy, so wine is served at the banquet table.
When the Word of God seeps into us like wine, it gives us the joy of life.
It's a very strange and cheerful joy, and it fills me with confidence without any anxiety.
This is the essence of Christianity: life in Jesus Christ.
The banquet master is the master of the neighborhood, the high ranking adult.
He is a senior who is hosting a party. He says that many people give expensive and delicious wine first and then give cheap and tasteless wine, so how this family bring the delicious wine later. (John 2:10)
This is the difference between the humanity in Adam and the divinity of Christ.
For Christians who have become one body and one spirit with Christ, the old self born in Adam gradually wears out, and the new self in Christ is renewed every day (2 Corinthians 4:16).
Just as the wine that has changed after the water is filled to the brim with the words of Jesus tastes completely different from the first, the taste of Christians must change and become different.
Christians must exude a spiritual taste that cannot be tasted by people in the world.
Just as water was changed into wine when it met the Word, everything changes when it meets Ho Logos, that is, Christ, the Word.
Why? Because we are united (one) with Christ.
The encounter with Christ is an eternal cohabitation, not a brief encounter.
We must remember Jesus hanging on the cross every time we look at him, but after three days, he ascends to the throne, and his disciples who follow him , the children of God, who have become one with the Lord in the Holy Spirit, become the bride of Christ, his body, the church.
If you regard the Word as a guide to action as a lesson, ethics, and morals, you will never be blessed with a change in the taste of your existence.
That is law, not grace and truth.
However, the words of Christ, the Son of God, penetrate our spirit with his spirit and life through the Holy Spirit, creating peace, joy, testimony, and song in our hearts.
This is the changed taste of Christians.
When Jesus' words to fill the water up to the brim and the servants' actions come together, and the servants carry out the Lord's words to carry the water, at that moment the water turned into wine.
Therefore, the Lord's words to fill the water and carry it are more important than the quality of the water or the zeal of the servants who carry it.
For example, Peter and his disciples casted their nets all night but caught no fish. Then, as the Lord had said, they casted their nets on the right side of the boat (John 21:6) and caught 153 fish.
It is that people place a lot of meaning on the right side, but the most important thing is that the Lord comes there and tells them to cast on the right side of the boat.
There is no way the disciples wouldn't have lowered their nets on the right, left, front and back all night long.
Therefore, the meaning of the right side is not important, but the key is the word of the Lord.
That is why it is very important to be aware of the presence of Christ in us and to hear his words.
If you listen to the words of Christ three days later, they will become spirit and life, and change will definitely occur.
The word change into life, life into peace, and peace into joy.
The process of becoming like this means that our bodies are becoming temples.
People say that the body is a temple where the Holy Spirit dwells (1 Corinthians 3:16), but the reason there is no change is because they cannot hear the words of Christ and the temple function that leads to the throne of grace by the Spirit of truth is not exercised.
Of course, by drinking the bread of hardship and the cup of suffering for a long time, learning the message of the cross of Christ, constantly denying oneself, taking up one's cross, and repeatedly learning the spiritual principles of grace and truth to follow the Lord, the body becomes a temple, finally, the function and role of the temple that changes in quality will be exerted.
