물소리 멎는 자리

한천세향입송풍(寒泉細響入松風)
석화초홍영죽총(石火初紅映竹叢)
일순각래심지백((一瞬覺來心地白)
부지하처시서동(不知何處是西東)

찬 샘물 잔잔한 소리 솔바람에 스미고
돌불 붉게 피어 대숲에 비친다
찰나 깨닫자 마음 바탕 환히 밝아
동서 어디인지조차 알 수 없네.

English Verse Translation
The Place Where the Sound of Water Falls Still
The fine sound of a cold spring melts into the pine wind,
The first red glow of the stone fire reflects on bamboo leaves.
In one sudden moment of awakening, the mind-ground turns pure and bright,
And I no longer know where east or west may be.
Short Commentary (English)
This poem captures a moment of quiet awakening in the midst of preparing tea.
The delicate sound of spring water, the wind through the pines, and the first glow of fire all gather into a single meditative scene.
Then, in one instant, the mind becomes clear and empty.
At that point, distinctions such as east and west lose their meaning.
In the spirit of Zen,
this is not merely a description of nature,
but a revelation that true clarity appears
when the divided mind falls silent.
