1. Market Overview
○ Ministry of Industry noted, currently there are about 925 plastic manufacturers from upstream to downstream, and absorb more than 37,000 workers. The growth of the plastics industry will continue to be encouraged with the provision of government borne import duty facility (BMDTP). In addition, the government also encourages the development of the petrochemical industry as the main pillar of the plastics industry. Competitiveness will be enhanced by accelerating the implementation of SNI in order to improve competitiveness and protection for the local industry through SNI for five upstream chemical products sector.
○ Plastic industry will likely continue to grow rapidly, according to the Association of Industrial Aromatic, Olefin and Plastic Indonesia (Inaplas), plastic consumption nationwide in 2013 predicted reached around 3 million tons or an increase of about 7% of consumption previous year that reached 2.8 million tons.
○ The increase was driven by increasing demand of packaging industry and the domestic plastic industry that is optimistic that demand of plastic will still increase, because of the demand from the food and beverage industry continues to strengthen, and the automotive sector that plan to continue to increase its production capacity. Despite concerns with the flood of imported food and beverage products in the local market will erode plastic local market.
○ Currently plastic raw material products that are already have production facilities in the country are:

○ Local raw materials have not yet been able to fully supply the demand of downstream industries. For example, for products PP resins capacity of 550,000 tons per year, while the demand of it reached 842,000 tons. Some plastic products raw materials had to be imported, whereas the number of plastic consumption in Indonesia tends to increase every year. Indonesia is a potential market; consumption is only expected to grow 7 percent annually.
