Summary:
God’s righteousness is now revealed apart from the Law, though the Law and Prophets testify to it. This righteousness comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe, without distinction, because all have sinned and fall short of God's glory. People are justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus, whom God publicly displayed as a propitiation through faith in His blood. This demonstrates God's righteousness—showing He is just and the justifier of those who have faith in Jesus. Therefore, boasting is excluded. A person is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. God is the God of both Jews and Gentiles, and He will justify both through faith. Faith upholds the Law rather than nullifying it.
Teaching:
The issue of God's righteousness is the issue of salvation. To be declared righteous is to be saved.
Both Gentiles and Jews have a problem with sin, and the only way to resolve that problem is through faith in Jesus Christ.
It’s not merely saying “I believe in Jesus,” but believing in the story of Jesus being the Christ—the testimony of the Law and the
Prophets, which is revealed in His birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection.
It is through this kind of faith that one is saved and comes to believe that Jesus is the Christ.
Our God is the God of all sinners. We must understand God’s love toward sinners. It is by the law of faith that a sinner is declared righteous. Whether circumcised or uncircumcised, Jew or Gentile, you or me—we are justified by faith. Church life is a life of being declared righteous through faith—in Jesus Christ.
Fix your eyes on Jesus alone.
