먼지털이로 문지방 털다가

무심코 복조리 건드렸더니

방바닥 가득 눈이 부시도록

참깨가 한 아름 쏟아졌다

어머니 돌아가시고

그늘 밑에 앉아있던 우리들 웃음

우리의 방 가득 쏟아진 어머니

미리 준비해 놓으셨던 어머니의 봄

내 적은 마음속 밭뙈기 가득 심어서

복이 깨처럼 햇살처럼 쏟아지는 계절이 오면

꿀이 철철 넘치도록 꽃을 피우고

벌 나비 꿀물 한 바가지씩 나누어주며

어머니의 웃음 나누어주며

일산 고층아파트 17층 사는 고모님에게 다녀와야지

르완다 가서 땀 흘리는 동생에게도 소포를 부치고

While dusting the threshold with a duster,

I accidentally touched the fortune-bamboo strainer,

And a armful of sesame seeds spilled across the room,

Dazzling and bright.

After Mother passed away,

Our smiles that had been resting in the shade—

Mother spilled all over our room,

The spring that Mother had prepared in advance.

I will plant them in the small patch of field inside my heart,

And when the season arrives where blessings pour down like sesame and sunshine,

I will bloom flowers overflowing with honey,

Sharing a gourd of sweet nectar with the bees and butterflies,

Sharing Mother’s smile with them.

Then I will visit my aunt living on the 17th floor of an apartment in Ilsan,

Send a package to my younger sibling sweating in Rwanda,

And remember that there is Jeong-i’s mother nearby, a neighbor with whom I must share.
