제 22호......知分(지분)......분수를 알음......第257事

   No 22 : Ji-bun(知分,지분 - Knowing One′s Station)...

                          Knowing one′s proper place and boundaries... Article 257.    

知分(지분)은 마땅히 해야 할 일을 알고 마땅히 하지 말아야 할 것을 아는 것이다.

  Ji-bun(知分,지분 - Knowing One′s Lot) means knowing what ought to be done and knowing

   what ought not to be done.

하늘의 이치를 알아서 인간의 일을 서로 화합하고

  It is understanding the principles of heaven to bring harmony to human affairs,

만물의 이치를 알아 인간의 이치와 서로 마주 대하는 것이다.

  and understanding the prinaiples of all creation to align them with the principles of human nature.

분수를 알면 만가지 이치가 순해지고 백가지 일이 화합하니

  When one knows their properplace and limits,

   ten thousannd truths flow smoothly and a hundred affairs come into harmony.  

밤바다에 달이 떠오르는 것과 같아지는 것이다.

  like the moon rising brightly over the night sea.

持分者는 持當爲者며 持不當爲者니라 (지분자는 지당위자며 지부당위자니라)

  "One who holds one′s proper lot(Jibun)" means maintaining what ought to be done

   and holding fast against what ought not to be done.

知天道하여 與人事相合하며 (지천도하여 여인사상합하며)

  By knowing the Way of Heaven, one brings human affairs into harminy with it,

知物理하여 與人理相對也라 (지물리하여 여인리상대야라)

  understanding the laws of nature(all creation),

   one aligns them face-to-face with human prinaiples.

持分則萬理順하고 百事和하여 如夜海月上이니라.
지분즉만리순하고   백사화하여    여야해월상이니라.

  When one holds fast to their proper place,

   the thousand truths flow smoothly and all affairs come into harmony,

   which is like the moon rising brightly over the night sea.
