Stocks are mostly higher on Wall Street after an encouraging report on inflation, worries about tariifs are keeping markets on edge.
The stock market opened higher but gave back some of those gains after other counties announced retaliatory measures following President Donald Trump's latest escalation of his trade war.
The S&P 500 was 0.4% higher in the first hour of trading Wednesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gave up an early gain and fell 172 points-that's about 0.4%-and the Nasdaq composite was 1.1% higher.
Artificial Intelligence companies helped lead the way.
Nvidia added 5% to trim its loss for the year.
