Summary:
Believers should not let sin control their bodies or obey its desires. They must not present themselves to sin as tools for unrighteousness but instead offer themselves to God as those made alive from the dead. Sin will not dominate them because they are under grace, not law.
Teaching:
To make our faith a living faith, we must live it out through our bodies. The story of Jesus, from beginning to end in the Gospels, is also a story of the body - He was conceived in a woman’s womb, born, grew up, suffered, died, was buried, rose again, and ascended - all through the body.
And when He says, “This church is My body, My church,” then our bodies, as members of the church, are no longer just our own.
We must believe with our bodies. We must decide not to let sin rule over this perishable body. Simply attending church won’t change anything.
Therefore, we must always be alert and conscious of how we live in our bodies by faith. Otherwise, sin will dominate us, just as it ruled over the descendants of Adam, and we’ll keep falling into sin.
But when we obey God’s Word with our bodies, He makes our bodies His servants and carries out His work through us - this is what it means to be instruments of righteousness for God.
