교독문 Responsive Reading 이사야 Isaiah 58
"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and
break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter
when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away
from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of
the LORD will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the LORD will answer
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.
"If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy
the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.
The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
Flight at the End of Days
"Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. "Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. "Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. "But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! "But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. "For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. "Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short. Matthew 24:15-22
Verse 15 of the passage, “If you see the abominable things of destruction standing in the holy place, as the prophet Daniel said,” is a quotation from Daniel 11:31. This appears to be the case that the temple was defiled by Antiochus in 167 BC, and since the Lord quoted this, the prevailing view is that the temple was destroyed by Rome around 70 CE. But Paul also said that at the end, a man of destruction would come out and sit in the temple and call himself God.
Verses 16 through 18 seem to describe the urgent situation during the tribulation. However, if its content corresponds to the destruction of the Roman temple around AD 70, then it seems at least somewhat valid, but if it is the end times that believers today imagine, then we are now preparing for a tribulation in which the battlefield is no longer divided. And Jerusalem itself was a city built on a hill, and the temple was located even higher up among them.
In a structure that divides faith into three stages, the bond, the roof, and the field are distinguished as stages of faith, but in that system of understanding, the very act of fleeing becomes something that applies only to the bond, so I also consider this invalid. And we see that we are returning to the Lord’s second coming, when He will come again. Therefore, most interpretations either regard it as the future eventual return of the Lord, or present the view of simultaneous interpretation of the change of personal character and the future eventual return.
However, the greatest difficulty of this perspective is verse 34: "Before this generation is finished, all this will be accomplished." Therefore, in approaching the text, we must find an interpretation that satisfies all these various conditions. Today, among the various aspects of the passage, we will focus on and reflect upon the particular issue of “running away.” We come to discover that all the records in the passage are actually connected to this “flight.”
Flight appears in many places in the Bible. Even Noah’s Ark was a flight to escape the flood, and especially the Exodus was the entire process of leaving Egypt and fleeing. But at the same time, it was also the fulfillment of the covenant of the land of Canaan. Of course, if we consider the Lord’s second coming as a future event, there is no distinction of where the final tribulation must go for refuge. Therefore, this act of fleeing requires a different perspective of understanding than the future situation.
It is the perspective of God’s covenant, in which the risen Lord is accomplished throughout the lifetimes of all children of God in every age, transcending the ages. In other words, it is union with Christ in every age. From this perspective, the cosmic upheaval signifies the collapse of the worldview of the self that existed before. And we can find that faith that follows God’s providence is the one in the bond, and then what fleeing points to is the same as the fleeing in the Exodus or in the preparation of the ark.
Then, what is the abhorrent destruction in verse 15? It is the discovery of the self that had been reigning in the worldview of the established self, and the realization that it is seated in God’s place in the temple. Then that is also a part that can be understood as to why the temple must fall. Feeling these signs of division is the uproar and the uproar of rumors, and even more, it is experiencing earthquakes and famine. Therefore, the Lord’s eschatology is the news concerning the gospel in which the covenant is fulfilled.
