Summary:
The Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. God, who searches the hearts, knows the mind of the Spirit because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified.
Teaching:
Those who love God—those who are called according to His purpose—are people who live with the hope of His calling and carry out the work God has given them. That work is God’s inheritance. For such people, all things work together for good.
“For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”
Those whom God predestined—us—are not simply churchgoers. We have been called by God and foreknown by Him. Our attendance at church is within God’s plan and sovereign purpose. Everything God does is to shape us into the image of His Son. Therefore, the work of God is to make us like Jesus. Becoming like Jesus is the task of each believer and of the church as a whole.
