제 23호......修敎(수교)......가르침으로 닦음......第259事

  Sub-gate 23 : Su-gyo(修敎,수교)... Cultivating through teachings... Article 259.

修(수)는 스스로 닦는 것도 닦음이며,남을 닦아 주는 것도 닦는 것이다.

  Cultivating(修,수- Su) means cultivating oneself as will as helping  others cultivate themselves.

하늘의 이치를 깨우치기 위해 닦는다는 것은

  Cultivating to awaken to the principles of heaven means.

어두운 사람을 가르쳐서 밝은 근원을 보게 하며,

  teaching those in darkness to see the bright origin,

악한 사람을 가르쳐서 착한근원으로 돌아오게 하고,

 teaching evil people to return to their good origin,

착한 사람을 가르쳐서 인간의 근원으로 돌아오게 하면

  and teaching good people to return to the fundamental essence of humanity.

그 공로가 가뭄에 단비가 쏟아지는 것보다 나은 것이다.

  The merit of doing so is greater than a welcome rein pouring down upon a drought.

修敎者는 自修도 修也요 (수교자는 자수도 수야요)

  "One who cultivates through teachings(Su-gyo)" means that self-cultivation is cultivation,

修人도 亦修也라 (수인도 역수야라)

  and guiding / cultivating others is also cultivation.

修天道之道者는 敎昏人하여 (수천도지도자는 교혼인하여)

  One who cultivates the path of the Heavenly Way teaches the ignorant(those in darkness),

見明道하며 敎惡人하여 (견명도하며 교악인하여)

  Helping them see the bright path ; teaches the wicked,

歸善道하고 敎善人하여 (귀선도하고 교선인하여)

  Guiding them back to the good path ; and teaches the virtuous,

遷人道則功過於甘霈니라. (천인도즉공과어감패니라.)

  leading them toward the fundamental human way.

  Doing so yields merit that exceeds even the blessing of a sweet rain(gam-pae)

  [Explanation, 풀이]

스스로 닦는 것은 道(도)이며, 남을 닦아주는 것은 德(덕)이다.

  Cultivating oneself is Dao(The Way),  while helping others cultivate themselves De(Virtue).

道(도)는 만개의 道(도)가 있다 해도 그 닿는 곳은 오직 한곳인 하나님에게로 이다.

  Even if there are ten thousand paths to Dao, they all ultimately lead to one place : God.

德(덕)은 오직 한곳인 하나님에게서 나오지만 善(선)한 모든사람을 통해 수없이 많은 형태로 나타난다.

  Although De originates solely from God,

  it manifests in countless forms through all good people. 

그 중에서 가장 근본적인 것이 남을 닦아주어 善(선)을 이루도록 하는 것이다.

  Among there, the most fundamental is guiding others in self-cultivation

  so that they may attain goodness(Seon).

그럼으로써 善(선)은 빛과 같이 세상을 밝게 하기 때문이다.

  This is because Goodness illaminates the world just like light.
