A Single, Semi-Conscious Recitation Dispels Underworld Envoys

단 한번의, 혼수상태에서의 염불이 저승사자를 물리치다.

Under the lights of the operating table, the old woman was anesthetized. The surgeon's sharp blade reflected the cold light and moved across her belly

수술대를 비추는 빛 아래에, 나이든 할머니가 마취되어 있었습니다. 외과의사의 날카로운 칼은 차가운 빛을 번쩍였으며, 할머니의 배를 가로질렀어요.

Soon the doctors and nurses started to shiver. The heart-rate monitor beside them had stopped displaying fluctuations and flatlined. The beeping sound was hard on the ears, loudly pushing the woman towards death.

곧 의사와 간호사가 떨기 시작했습니다. 그들 옆에 있던 심장 박동을 확인하는 기계가 요동치는 그림을 보여주지 않고, 완전히 평평한 선을 보여주었으니까요. 삐삑 거리는 경고음이 귀를 세차게 내리쳤고, 그렇게 할머니는 죽음으로 몰려갔어요.

A gust of black wind swept the Black & White Guardians of the Underworld into the operating room. They grabbed the old woman and put her in iron chains. Hair dishevelled, she was hauled off to a darker place

시커먼 돌풍이 몰아쳤고, 검은색과 하얀 색의 지하세계의 저승사자가 수술실에 들어왔습니다. 저승사자들은 할머니를 붙잡아서 쇠사슬로 묶었습니다. 머리는 헝클어지고, 어두운 어디론까 끌려갔습니다.

Along the way, in dark forests, many shriveled hands reached out to her. "Return my life," "Repay my debt," their owners demanded. Gripped by intense fear, she no longer cared where she was going. 

그 길에서, 어두운 숲에서, 수많은 주름진 손이 나타나 할머니를 붙잡으려 들면서 "내 생명을 다시 돌려줘!", "내 빚을 갚아라!" 라고 외쳤습니다.  너무나도 두려워서 할머니는 더 이상 어디에 계신지 조차 알 수 없었습니다.

 Suddenly, she sensed that someone was beckoning to her on a high hill far away. Firmly but tenderly came the call: "Recite Amitabha Buddha, hurry up and recite Amitabha Buddha!

갑자기, 할머니는 누군가가 저 높은 언덕에서 부르고 있는 것을 느꼈습니다. 확고하지만 친절하게 타이르시길 "아미타부처님을 염해라! 서둘러 아미타부처님의 염해라!"

The old woman at once chanted, "Amitabha Buddha, Amitabha Buddha"… Amid a burgeoning golden light, the irons chains, Underworld Guardians, karmic creditors and enemies all disappeared. 

 "나무 아미타불 나무 아미타불" 할머니는 당장 염송했고, 갑자기 황금빛 광명이 퍼져올라 그 속에서 쇠사슬, 저승사자, 업이 만들어낸 것들과 원수들이 모두 사라졌습니다.

 "Ah!" gasped the old woman as she began breathing again. She opened her eyes. She was on a mobile bed, in a corridor that led to the dreaded mortuary. 

"아!" 할머니는 다시 숨을 헐떡이기 시작했고 눈을 떳어요. 할머니는 움직이는 침대에 실려서 무서운 영안실로 가는 복도를 지나고 있었습니다.

 It turned out that the compassionate advice just now had been shouted out by the woman's niece, a nun, who was standing by the sickbed. It was her exclamation "Namo Amitabha Buddha" that allowed the patient miraculously to return to the human world. 

알고보니 할머니의 조카딸 스님이 병상 옆에 서서 자비롭게 도움말을 하고 있었는데, 바로 조카딸 스님께서 나무아미타불을 염한 까닭으로 기적처럼 할머니가 다시 사람들의 세상으로 돌아올 수 있었던 것입니다.

The name "Namo Amitabha Buddha" is a treasure ship of light. Invariably, it transforms fear into great peace.

"나무아미타불"이라는 이름은 빛으로 된 보물선입니다.  언제나 이 보물선은 공포를 크나큰 평화로 바꾸어 줍니다.
