9th March(Fri)  Travel to Happiness, Montserrat

  My first day in Barcelona was a satisfying one. Thanks to the guide's efficient guidance, I was able to see most of Barcelona's major attractions. And with a good night's rest, my fatigue vanished completely.

  Today, I decided to visit the Montserrat monastery, located on a mountain about 60 kilometers northwest of Barcelona. I hurried early in the morning to catch the train to Montserrat from Plaza de España station and got off at Monserrat Aeri station after about an hour.

The area around Barcelona is mostly plains, but here, a 1,235-meter-high rocky mountain rises, creating a scenic and mystical landscape. A monastery perched on the hillside is visible. Built in the 11th century, this Benedictine monastery is famous for housing a statue of the Virgin Mary, patroness of Catalonia (capital: Barcelona)

After transferring to the ropeway and arriving at the monastery halfway up the 725-meter mountain, I took the funicular to the summit. The weather was clear, so I enjoyed the panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, stretching from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean Sea. Montserrat means "sawed mountain," and it is said that Gaudí, seeing the harmonious rock formations, considered it the model for the Sagrada Familia.

Our female students, their spirits lifted, their steps light. They quickly headed to the Basilica. Travelers come here to be blessed by the angelic voices of the Escolania Boys' Choir, which performs every afternoon at 1 p.m.

Founded in the 13th century, the choir of around 50 members sings for pilgrims twice daily (at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM). Photography is prohibited inside the cathedral, so unfortunately, I cannot show you the boys' choir or the interior. The beautiful cathedral interior and the clear, beautiful voice of the boys' sopranos offered a prayer of thanksgiving for God's blessings on this pilgrim's journey. After the choir, I left the cathedral and saw a statue of the Virgin Mary, then proceeded to the monastery refectory.

Although it was a restaurant deep in the mountains, the food wasn't expensive. I had a jamón sandwich with kaya, and I was in a good mood. Now,

I hurried down the mountain, determined to quickly return to Barcelona and see all the sights I hadn't seen yet. I caught the train around 2:30.

3월 9일 (금) Montserrat

  바르셀로나의 첫 날  여정은 만족스러웠다. 가이드의 효율적인 안내로 Barcelona의 중요한 곳을 대부분 볼 수 있었다.그리고 푹 휴식을 취하여 피로도 말끔이 사라졌다.

  오늘은 바르셀로나에서 서북 족으로 60 여 Km 떨어진 곳, 산 위에 있는 Montserrat 수도원을 다녀 오기로 하였다. 아침 일찍 서둘러 스페인 광장역에서 몬세라트 행 기차를 타고 1시간 여 만에 Monserrat Aeri 역에내렸다.

  바르셀로나 부근은 대부분 평원이나 이곳은 고도 1235m나 되는 기암괴석으로 이루어 진 바위 산들로 경관이 좋고 신비로은 풍경이다. 산 중턱에 있는  수도원이 보인다. 11세기 부터 세워진 베네딕트회 수도원으로 카탈루나 주민(주도: 바르셀로나)들의 수호 성모인 마리아 상이 모신 곳으로 유명한 곳이라 한다.

  로프 웨이를 갈아타고 725m 산 중턱에 있는 수도원에  내린 후 바로 산 정상까지 올라가는 케이블 카(Funicular)로 산 정상까지 올라 갔다.날씨가 맑아서 주위의 경관과 피레네 산맥에서 지중해까지 보는 panorama View를 즐거워 했다. 몬세라트는 '톱으로 짜른 산'이란 의미로 조화로운 바위들을 보고 '가우디'는 사그라 파밀리아 성당의 모델로 생각했다고 한다 .

  우리 여학생들이 상쾌한 마음으로 발거름도 가볍게 움직인다. 급히 대성당 Basilica로 향한다.

 매일 오후 1시에 열리는 에스콜라니아(Escolania) 소년합창단의 맑은 소년 소프라노 합창으로 천사같은 미성을 들으며 축복 받고자 여행객들이 이곳에 온다./ 13세기에 창단되어 50여명으로 구성된 합창단은 매일 2회(오후 1시, 5시) 순례자들에게 들려 주고 있다. 대성당 내에서는 사진 촬영이 금지되어 소년 합창단과 성당 내부를 사진으로 보여 주지 못함이 유감이다. 아름다운 성당 내부와 맑고 고운소년 소프라노 합창은 이 나그네의 순례길에 하나님의 축복을 받았다고 감사 기도를 드렸다.

합창이 끝나고 성당을 나오다가 수호 성모 마리아 상을 친견하고 수도원 식당으로 갔다/

  깊은 산 속의 식당이지만 음식값은 비싸지 않았다. 카야와 함께 하몽 샌드위치, 그레서 기분이 좋았다.

 이제는 빨리 바르셀로나로 돌아 가서 아직도 보지 못한 바르셀로나 명물을 오늘까지 다 볼려고 서둘러 하산하였다. 2시 30분 경 기차를 탔다.
