My dream is to become a well-known marketer who can also handle management. The person who best represents this goal to me is John Hagerty.
John Hegarty is a British advertiser and the co-founder of Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH). BBH is a global advertising agency named after its three founders, and it is known for its different and creative approach to advertising.
He was born in London in 1944 and studied art before entering the advertising industry. At first, he had a hard time because his ideas were often rejected. But instead of giving up, he kept his unique perspective and turned it into his strength.
After founding BBH in 1982, he continued to create advertisements that were different from others. One of his most famous campaigns, Levi’s “Black Sheep,” focused on individuality and became very successful. It also helped BBH become known worldwide. He received many awards for his contributions to advertising. In 2007, he was knighted by the Queen of the United Kingdom and was also inducted into the American Advertising Hall of Fame. He also wrote the book Hegarty on Gravitiy to share his ideas and experiences.
He once said, “There is no such thing as originality, so strive for freshness. Ultimately, what matters is how others respond to your ideas.” This quote made me realize that marketing is not just about being new, but about how people react. Because of this, I want to be a marketer who thinks not only about ideas but also about how to move people’s minds.
Also, he is not just an advertiser but someone who started and grew his own company. That’s why I admire him. I don’t want to be just someone who makes good ideas, but someone who can lead a brand and grow it.
So, I want to become a marketer like John Hegarty—someone who creates ideas that people respond to, uses a unique perspective as a strength, and can do both marketing and management well.
I want to become a marketer and a business leader like John Hegarty.
