Commentary on John 4 (3)
Chapter 4 of the Gospel of John is the most concrete example in the Bible that shows that as soon as God begins to speak through Jesus Christ, salvation and meeting the Messiah will occur.
This is an example of the Word coming to those who are destined to be saved.
However, Jesus approached this Samaritan woman in Sychar and spoke to her, revealing Himself as living water, her husband, and the Messiah, teaching her true worship, and making her a harvest worker who tastes God's food, spreads the gospel, and ultimately brings in the harvest. Although things have happened on the ground without hesitation, we must realize that it will take a long time for us as individuals as Christians.
However, it is John 4 that explains in detail the process and the fact that when God speaks, the fruit of salvation will surely be born.
Through John 4, God shows us how persistent he is in persuading us.
In order to save this woman, Jesus decides, “We must pass through Samaria” (John 4:4).
We too are like the woman at the well in Sychar, but we can know from this incident that God wants to persuade us and receive true worship from us.
Worship should not be thought of as spirituality that uses imagination, saying it's spirit and truth and should not be filled with talk show-like sermons , or that relieve the stress of believers.
That path becomes a shortcut to hearing that God is dead, like Nietzsche, or to the theory of the uselessness of the church.
This is because functions to replace the church have become widespread in the world.
Just as God sent Jesus to this earth to speak the word and save them, the Lord still sends those who have the word of revelation to those who are destined to be saved.
Therefore, we must not harden our hearts when God speaks (Hebrews 3, 4).
Not to be hardened means not to measure the words with your own reason, wondering if it will be true when God says it or not.
Even now, God speaks through the environment and circumstances, speaks through our conscience, and continues to speak through the sermons of the Lord's servants.
Therefore, if God speaks to us in any way, it becomes an opportunity for blessing.
When the word approaches, it is evidence that God's providence and zeal are directed toward me.
Without this, you are under the fateful curse of death.
When the word of Christ comes and is in your mouth and touches your heart, you will believe with your heart, confess with your mouth, and be saved (Romans 10:8,10).
According to that faith, the Holy Spirit works within us and helps us know the truth.
As the Lord approached this Sychar woman and spoke to her, the ears and mouth of her heart were opened and she recognized that Jesus was the Christ.
Just as she, when one hears the gospel of the truth, he believes that Jesus is the Christ, realizes that he has been under the shadow of death, and believes and follows the Lord to the place where he died on the cross with the Lord and rose again from the dead.
Peter says that through repentance and baptism, he receives forgiveness of sins. (Acts 2:38)
The Holy Spirit comes to the heart where sin has been dealt with and the Holy Spirit makes us know the truth, so we offer worship that moves us to the throne of God's grace according to the truth based on the grace we have received.
So, in the Psalms, there are scenes of waiting and waiting for God, and there are also songs about approaching God, wondering when I will see the face of the Lord.
If we, who has received the grace that came to us through the word of Christ, follows Christ in the truth by faith and comes to the throne of the Lord, we learn the procedures, processes, and methods of worship, and by calling on the name of the Lord, we can gain and gain life through the path of life to heaven at all times.
With that life, we receive the blessing of going to that glory, rejoicing, and loving.
