다들 즐거운 주말 보내셨는지요^^
이번주 스터디는 예상치 못한 다수 멤버들의 결석으로 소수정예(미셀, 에릭, 테드, 영심)로
스터디가 진행되었습니다.
반가운 얼굴들 못본게 좀 아쉽지만 그래도 소수정예 스터디 나름 재미있었던 것 같네요..ㅋ

Feb. 11, Monday
1. Jam : a difficult situation
ex) I'm really in a jam. Do you think you could help me out?
2. Edition : one of a series
ex) I just read the latest edition of the magazine.
3. Cut it close : to make no allowance for errors
ex) I don't want to cut it too close.
4. Deadline : the time when something must be submitted or finished
ex) I spoke to the teacher but he refused to extend the deadline.
5. Adamant : unyielding in attitude or opinion
ex) The student was adamant that he deserved a higher grade.
6. Postpone : to put off for a later date
ex) I called the doctor to postpone my appointment.
7. Buy someone time : to obtain a longer period before something happens
ex) I'm going to tell them we're stuck in traffic in order to buy us some time.
8. Budge : to move slightly
ex) He was so interested in the movie that he barely budged the entire film.
9. Status : the state or condition
ex) The manager wanted weekly updates on the project's status.
Feb. 12, Tuesday
1. Dig in : to begin to work intensively
ex) With only one week before finals, Tom had to dig in and get to work.
2. Just playing : not being serious, joking
ex) Jack was just playing. Don't get upset with him.
3. Unoriginal : not being fresh or new
ex) The company rejected all of the ad as being unoriginal.
4. Pull out all the stops : to do everything you can to be successful
ex) Wow! Mary really pulled out all the stops for this party.
5. Unique : one of a kind
ex) The researcher traveled around the globe collecting unique specimens.
6. Sweep someone off their feet : to cause someone to fall in love with you
ex) The moment Jack walked through the door; Mary was swept off her feet.
7. Counselor : a person who advises
ex) My college counselor suggested that I apply to only four schools.
8. Carriage : a wheeled vehicle for carrying people
ex) The carriage rides through the park were one of the city's most popular attractions.
9. Plastic : an informal expression for credit cards
ex) Jack rarely carries any cash. He prefers to use plastic.
Feb. 13, Wednesday
1. Interrogation : the act of questioning
ex) The prisoner seemed shaken after the interrogation.
2. Questionable : of doubtful honesty or respectability
ex) I'd be careful trusting someone with a questionable background.
3. Cover oneself : to protect from harm
ex) Ignore Tim's story. He's just trying to cover himself in case anything goes wrong.
4. Media : means of communications, usually radio, newspapers, etc.
ex) The media surrounded the prison to get a picture of the jailed politician.
5. Ethics : a system of moral principles
ex) I wouldn't trust Jack's ethics as he has been known to frequently cheat others.
6. Abuse : to use wrongly
ex) Tim abused his power by passing laws which helped his company.
7. Run for : to stand for election
ex) Who is running for president this year?
8. Decline : to withhold or refuse
ex) Mary declined to answer the questions from the reporters.
9. Volunteer : to offer oneself for service
ex) Many high school students volunteer in the hopes of improving their chances at getting into college.
Feb. 14, Thursday
1. Sprig : a small part of a plant with its leaves and flowers
ex) Jane decorated her house with small sprigs of roses.
2. Decoration : something used for adornment
ex) The house next door keeps their Christmas decorations up until April.
3. Synonymous : expressing or implying the same idea
ex) The company became synonymous with high quality.
4. Pull someone's leg : to subject someone to a playful hoax or joke
ex) Don't listen to Tim. He was just pulling your leg.
5. Flier : a pamphlet for mass distribution
ex) Every Sunday, my mailbox is stuffed full of fliers from neighborhood stores.
6. Toxin : a poison produced by a plant or animal
ex) The toxin of the jellyfish is one of the deadliest in the world.
7. Stuff one's face : to eat a lot, very quickly
ex) It doesn't matter how much you exercise if you're always stuffing your face with cookies.
8. Lethal : causing death
ex) While shark attacks can be dangerous, they are rarely lethal.
9. Be on the safe side : to do something just to avoid any potential problems
ex) I don't think it's serious, but just to be on the safe side, I'm going to run some additional tests.

1. Mill : a factory for certain kinds of manufacture
ex) The steel mill shut down and all of the workers lost their jobs.
2. Shrewd : keen and piercing
ex) The shrewd politician was careful not to give specific answers.
3. Spin : to from into thread or yarn
ex) The machine is used to spin silk thread.
4. Boast : to speak with exaggeration and pride
ex) Mike boasted that he was the smartest man in the world.
5. Chamber : a room in a house or apartment
ex) The queen's chambers were guarded by five men.
6. Heap : a group of things placed or lying together
ex) There was a heap of clothes on the floor of his room.
7. In vain : without effect; to no purpose
ex) Her attempts to change her grades were in vain.
8. Bewail : to express deep sorrow
ex) She bewailed her situation loudly.
9. Droll : amusing in an odd way
ex) He was popular for his droll humor and interesting ideas.
10. hobble : to walk with a limp
ex) He hobbled into the hospital and complained about his injured leg.
11. Hobgoblin : an ugly mischievous elf or goblin
ex) The hobgoblin is a common trickster in many stories.

앗, 조촐한 스터디였네요. 전 명절 끝나고 나니 갑자기 일이 몰려서 너무 정신이 없네요. 그나마 방송이라도 안 빠뜨리고 들으려고 노력 중이랍니다. 이번 한 주도 화이팅합시다~ ^^
드뎌 미쉘과 친해질 수 있었던 그날이였습니다. 알고보니, 저희 고향에 있는 지사에서 오랜동안 업무를 보시면서 거주하신 적이 있더라구요. 사실 말은 안했지만, 너무 행복했었습니다..*^^* 미쉘..^^감솨..담에 또 의림지얘기해요. 그리고, 리뷰 멋지고 깔끔하게 정리해주신 테드!땡큐.^^!!
