Matthew 6
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more important than food, and the body more
important than clothes?
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not
much more valuable than they?
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
"And why do you worry about clothes?
See how the lilies of the field grow.
They do not labor or spin.
So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
For the pagans run after all these things, and your
heavenly Father knows that you need them.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.
"Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. "Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. "For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. "Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. "But at midnight there was a shout, 'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.'"Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. "The foolish said to the prudent, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' "But the prudent answered, 'No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' "And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. "Later the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, lord, open up for us.' "But he answered, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.' "Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour. Matthew 25:1-13
Three Parables of the End of Days
The journey we have lived so far has been carried out under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It even includes the mistakes we have made. And now we have come to the point of fulfilling the will the Lord has given us. This is neither due to our abilities nor because our efforts differ from others'. These are all things done according to the will of God. In this way, we will become those who praise and bear witness to God's sovereignty.
Matthew 25 should be addressed and understood as an extension of all the discussion up to chapter 24. Three parables are given here, all beginning with the phrase "then," referring to the end times. Although these are independent parables, they are connected and combined to reveal what the Lord ultimately wants to convey to us. However, as I always say, you should keep in mind that there is content beneath the surface letter.
Three parables: the ten virgins, the talent, and the sheep and the goats. The atmosphere on the surface regarding these matters is one of judgment. The five virgins who had not prepared oil ultimately were not allowed into the wedding feast; the servant who had buried the gift of a talent was cast out for being wicked and lazy, and the goats were thrown into the eternal fire prepared for the four tribes and their flocks.
Perhaps many Christians think that such a thing will happen when the Lord comes. The Lord will come as a judge to carry out such judgment, so we are called to stay awake and prepare for His return. These were the Lord’s final sermons to His disciples before suffering on this earth. In other words, it can be said to constitute a will. It is only right to assume that you felt that deeply.
But we seek to look into another dimension of the Lord’s seriousness within these parables. And the three parables are not separate; they are one. In each parable, we distinguish between those who prepared the oil and those who did not, between those who profited from the talents and those who left them as they were, and between those who gave to the least and those who did not. And He gives each reward and punishment. However, we should note that the description of the punishment given to those who did not do what was done is clearer than that of the reward given to those who did.
In the parable of the ten virgins, they all had lamps, but no extra oil. The lamp is faith, and the oil is the Word. Then we can understand that the oil is a prepared word that has become part of our daily lives. In other words, the Word must be prepared as one's own in daily life. In the parable of the talents, the one who received five talents and the one who received two did the business and kept their portions, while the master gave them the authority to govern five towns and two towns.
Pay attention to what the one who received a talent said. 'Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. 'And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.' At first glance, this seems to acknowledge the owner's sovereignty. But the owner did not merely leave it to him; He commanded that he take it for himself. That is why He said He was evil and lazy.
Here, we can understand the Lord’s intention more closely. In other words, the Lord desires that we be restored as members of this world in our daily lives. But in reality, the Lord has not come to this earth merely as a servant. The Lord has brought the office of Christ. And He entrusts that office to us as well. We have received the Word united with Christ. And if we merely keep it in our hearts, we too become evil and lazy servants.
Then I ask. What do you want us to do? He spoke of it in the third parable. Whatever is done for one of the least of these, you do for me. The place that sends us is where we are. Now, knowing the Lord’s will and living accordingly is the meaning of our lives.
