Summary:
Paul urges believers to wake up, recognizing that salvation is nearer now than when they first believed. They are to lay aside deeds of darkness, put on the armor of light, and live honorably. Instead of indulging in sin, they are to clothe themselves with the Lord Jesus Christ and not make provision for the flesh.
Teaching:
Fruitless faith leads to the end. When Jesus comes, He will look for fruit, which is obeying God’s Word - loving Him and loving others.
“Therefore, let’s rid ourselves of the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
This is not lukewarm faith, but a militant and fighting faith that must be fervent. We must now cast off, cut off, and despise the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light—living according to God’s Word. Anything contrary to His Word must be avoided.
The only way to overcome the desires and passions within us is to follow Jesus Christ. We must stay awake - awakened by His Word and His Spirit.
